Hi everyone, on the day of my birthday I was driving to Sydney and the cops pulled me over, I was doing 128 klm in a 110 speed zone, I got a fine $205.00 and 3 points, it was a birthday gift lol. I wish I had one of those back then...

Thanks TRELLAMENOS...

Hi all, I just did a little research and the cops know if you have them in the car or not...

Your thinking of a radar dectector, and as long as you have a kill switch (ie turns unit off completely) they can "ping" and dectect your detector = big fines!

odd :S i didnt know radar detectors were illegal, considering theyre advertised in car mags and waht not..

is there any online distributors for these speed alerts? how hard are they to install?

the ones that are illegal are the ones that detect mobile units.

and you are looking at big big $$$$$ fines, for a $$$ unit price.

the ones that detect fixed speed cameras + speed alerts + other legal features are legal.

Aren't these just a GPS enabled device with a database of known locations?
If so yes these are legal.

Do a search for radar detector and you'll see where people have posted up the laws in regards to said devices.

inNSW Radar Detectors were deemed a " Hazard" not a prevention..
They figured that the Radar detectors would allow motorists to speed and then slow down well before being hit with the Radar.. So they have deemed them illegal, that and a Road Angel are the same thing so why the hell make one illegal and one not ?? I mean a Road angel will beep when you get close to a Fixed speed camera .....

I think it's due to fixed speed cameras being public knowledge. Therefore they are placed there to deter speeding.
Police don't want people speeding through these areas at all. Hence why some have signs up for red light/speed cameras at dangerous intersections... You know they are there, you slow down, intersection becomes safer.

The difference between these and mobile detectors, is that you arent meant to know where the mobile ones are, which means they could be anywhere. This makes drivers think "Should I speed and risk getting caught here?"

Radar detectors should be illegal, otherwise all ur taxes that are going into putting cops out there with guns are going down the drain.

Peace
