Hi all, Had a few days off work so i decided to do a bit to the car. This is the first time i have ever done anything like this, had heaps of fun doing it and i'm happy with the results. So what do you think??

looks hot. good work dude!
omfg, i wanted to do that to the instrument cluster!!!
how'd u take it out? is it hard? u need to take out the entire thing with teh plastic cover too huh? no need to take out dials or anything is there? does it just clip off.
I like how u did the surround, not just the face ;) if u get what i mean. All in all good job! driver's door trim is starting to come off though, lol

Thanks for the positive comments :D
eek, the instrument cluster is easy to take out. First take off the black surround (the part with the dimmer control) there are 2 screws that hold that on at the top. Once you take that off you can see the screws holding the cluster in.
Undo those and the cluster will pull out easy, pull it out a bit and then unclip the wire conector on the back of the cluster, when you get it out, undo the screws holding the plastice cover in place and the inside black part just unclips :)
No need to remove the dials, if the dials do happen to move they have little tabs they sit into, you'll know what i mean....
You don't miss much the trims where only a trial fit to see if i would like them, the original ones are still under them. Now that i know i like them that way i will do a more permanent job.
Cheers

hehe, ok
So the black stuff u painted is one complete piece? as in the face, and the surround. I'm just scared of breaking something...stuff is fragile...i'll take a look tomorrow, coz i want to spray it silver.

Yep, the face and surround are the one piece, i was going to just do the face part but thought may as well do the whole lot :D . If you just take your time and dont force anything you'll be fine.
I even made up my own white dials with the AMC web address on the rev counter lol

Yep made them from scratch, I did the dials a couple of months ago. I removed the original dials and scanned them onto the PC. Inverted the colours and presto white dials :D
Then just added the tribal thingy and the web address. Looks good during the day but i must admit it could look better at night :doubt: still working on that part...

how'd you print them off and all that? If you did them yourself what did you print them off on? Can you also send me your template of the ones in your car and explain how to print them off and all that. Would be greatly appreciated. can you send me your scans of the images to jared@darcykennedy.com as im thinking about doing this for mine as well but dont have a scanner.
thanks

No worries mate, i'll send you a detailed explanation of how i did it when i get home tonight, i have the scanned images saved on my PC...I'm still working on this to get it right, at the moment it is just printed on normal A4 paper. I have thoughts on laminating them etc but it is just finding the time....
I'm sitting thinking at the moment, should i paint the rest of my console red. I was thinking about doing around the air vents, sterio and ash tray but leaving the it black around the gear selector, thoughts anyone??

Yeah, i know it sounds real doddy but i like to try things out before i go invest $$ into something then find out i don't like it  . Same knida thing with the door trims, weird but ehh :D
I really like the white dials so if i can't find the right sort of paper/plastic to do it on i'll spend the $ and get the proper ones, but i like to be able to do it myself
