Okai well the first thing in the way was some cover that had mitsubishi on it. I took this off and it was covering the extractors (i think thats what there called)
anyways, the pipes coming out of the engine (extractors?) are running down next to the screws that hold the alternator charge regulator on and i cant get a screwdriver in there. how do i get charge regulator off, thanks.

Okai well ive worked it out, wasnt that hard.
Anyways i pulled the charge regulator out and had a look at the brushes (there not really brushes?? there more like blocks of metal yeah?)
anyways theres 2, and one is all smooth and the other is worn like its been rubbing against an uneven surface.
Anyways so if i just buy new brushes the alternator just going to wear it down again and who knows how long its going to last right?

Obviously it will become worn again. Brushes are consumables, they're not going to last infinitely.

no what im saying is, one of the two brushes was worn, because whatever it has to rub against inside the alternator has become rough, if the alternator was in good condition it woldnt wear down the brushes.
So what im sayin is, by putting in new brushes it, they will just wear down quickly because of the alternator being worn and maybe its better idea to fix the alternator then the brushes.

The brushes do tend to wear uevenly, When they are stuffed the better one should be less than 4mm longer than the stuffed one. if you have one brush that is more than a few MM longer than the other tht is completely worn, then i would be looking for any wear in the ring it contacts.
If the surface of the contact ring is worn then yes, replacing the alternator would be the better way to go if you want a long service life from the car.
