HOLY ****!..i just changed the sparkplugs, and what a shock! check out this pic..all 3 on the rear bank were the same!
also got a question hopefully somebody can help with...the hose in the pic..undid it and coolant comes pissing out all over the place.
my question is,was this from the radiator?..and whats that filler with COOLANT writen on it on the passenger side of the engine bay at the front..what goes in there?
..and the gap on those plugs...2-3 times what it should be!!

Looks like the hose that comes from your heater into the engine block.

Those rear plugs last 100,000 before they get changed .... I wouldn't expect them to look all that flash after that long.

The first time I read this, I read it as you took out the spark plugs and coolant came out..was thinking, your engine is ****ed..heh. So to answer your question about the hose - yes, coolant is run through the throttle body (to warm it up when it's cold, or something.) Coolant goes in the bottle labelled "coolant" (clever, huh?) and then circulates through the radiator and your tb, among other places. You should make sure it's at least up to the low mark on the dipstick - add coolant rather than water if it needs it.

that plug looks ok considering the extra gap it had, alright colour i'd expect it to be running way to hot and be white as...coolant is circulated through the throttle body from the thermostat....as stated

Is it a Platinum plug? If so then if the tip has burnt away (say after 100,000k) then that gap is probably right. That's an edumacated guess anyway :)

As for the coolant going through the TB. I can't understand how that works

It is supposed to help start a cold engine. But when the engine is cold then so will the water be cold, so it won't help. And when the water is warm then it will be heating the incoming air which will decrease the efficiency of the engine.

Am I missing something???

Not much left of that plug .
When I did mine I began to pull that pipe off and coolant came out so I put it back on and worked around it, thats why I didn't put in the photo guide (sorry).
I'll put a note next to it so if anyone else wants to take the T/B right out they wont get a surprise. :)

Time again to clear up some myths.

The overflow bottle is just that, overflow. Should the cooling system buile up to much pressure then the coolant will be pused into the over flow bottle. When the engine cool's and the coolant contracts the coolant again gets drawn back.

The pipe you showd is for the throttle body air bypass valve. When cool a bi metalic reed opens to allow more air through to the engine to allow higher revs and the otor to warm up quicker.

The plug? it is stuffed. If it is a platinum it is totally worn, the tip should be fairly fine. Either way it has done way too many miles or there has been a lean out problem and it has over heated. If it was running hot all the time I would say it would be white but it may be a resolved problem. The brown worries me though, this can be a sign of coolant entry to the bores.

More likely is that someone has cheated during the life of the car.

If the gap has opened up this much on all 3 it probably means that standard plugs have been fitted to the rear bank.

What is the part number on them??

Most likely to be a platinum plug, they use them on the back 3 cylinders cause they last 100,00kms and pain in the ass to remove mainifold each time to change the spark plugs

The coolant flow through the throttle body is there to control the air flow at cold start. As far as I am aware there is a bypass valve in the throttle body. When the engine is cold (and the coolant is cold), then there is extra air passing through the throttle body through means of a wax pellet type valve (it closes when it gets hot).

Extra air through throttle body means extra revs at cold startup to help the engine. Hot engine means closed bypass valve, cold engine means open bypass valve.

its a chaMpion RC10PYP4..this isnt a platinum is it? :doubt:

Chances are if its from the rear row of plugs that it is, unless someone who changed them put in regular spark plugs, but doubt that would happen.
Im not 100% sure if yours would be platinum

Well that makes sense.

[COLOR=Black]
Actually the above is not quite correct. As the coolant heats up it expands into the overflow tank, when it cools down it contracts and is sucked back into the system. (provided that there are no leaks anywhere. I have a car that overflows into the tank but doesn't go back when its cooled down. No visable coolant leaks which makes me think there is a very small hole in the hose from the rad to the o/flow tank)

A healthy motor with a healthy cooling sustem in general will allow very little if any coolant to normally flow into the bottle. If your car is not allowing the coolant back check your cap and the hose to the bottle also the pipe that drops into the bottle.

The champion plug you listes is Platinum, still go NGK though
