just wondering what everyone thinks..im having a hard time deciding if a off car injector clean($300) is really worth it? :doubt: :doubt: ...would it make any difference to my car having done 220K an prolly never been done? $300 is alot of money!

just use a quality injector cleaning fluid and dont buy cheap petrol from crappy servo's.
Otherwise your wasting your money, had the injectors cleaned in the last car and when asked if they were blocked or dirty and the mechanic said they were fine and flowed ok.

I had the injectors cleaned on my old car, a KH Verada with (at the time) about 126,000km's on the clock aswell as a full bank of platinum plugs installed at the same time. Again, my mechanic said there wasn't a huge difference in the flow test.....i wouldn't totally say that it was a waste of money. I only used Optimax after having them cleaned and had absolute trouble free motoring with slightly improved consumption, which they say having injectors cleaned contributes to, more even "spray patterns" or something because there is nothing clogged (which happens over time). It was done to try and lessen the inherent rough idleing that 3rd Gens are notorious for. it doidnt' fix it but i feel it did improve it, wasn't unhappy i had it done....there was a certain amount of "peace of mind" involved.

$300 is too rich for the service. Where are you located? I have a friend in Newcastle who does this work at a dyno shop who can look after you on price. If the price was right, it would be worth doing esp with those k's on it.
If you do chicken out and use a fuel adative type - do it a week before you service it and change your fuel filter during the service. All the sh!t from the fuel tank walls will accumulate in your fuel filter and cause hassles. Best advice you'll get today lol

EZ,..im west of brisbane, would his price justify me taking them out,an send them to newcastle to be cleaned? :doubt:
..as for additives..im not convinced they work :doubt: ,has there been any testing to back these products up?
thanks.

Hi Rick
The method I'd suggest is to use a bottle of good quality injector cleaner and then 3 tankfuls of Caltex vortex with its own built-in cleaning agents and then if you felt that there was an improvement, you could get just the front 3 injectors serviced initially - easy to remove them yourself - and see what they show. Take care to release the fuel pressure first. This should cost around $30 each. Another way is to fit a 10-way led type fuel mixture meter like the Jaycar and you can usually see an erratic pattern if there is a problem with the fuel system
Cheers - Barry

Unless u feel like the car is really lacking in power, or you know that youve had contamination problems with your fuel. I think its best to pocket that $300 use it for somethin else or save it for When something terrible happens.
Dont do it if you think ur car might run/perform better...

I had my injectors cleaned recently. They were working fine but were dirty. Once they were cleaned one was actually faulty. This was after Mitsu had used their 'cleaning' additive - glad I had them cleaned properly.

This has been covered and argued about before but throttle in a bottle will not work. There is no such a cleaner that really will remove carbon of injectors.
The only 2 real methods is a volitile solution in a tin that the car is run off, this stuff is so bad it burns when exposed to air. The other way is ultra sonic.
I am a great believer of every 100k's. You may not notice a big difference, if you did I would then be very worried.

TJii 3.5L t/t 34km/62km
Hi to all that contributed to this thread - update - I took my own advice and removed the three front injectors for cleaning at 62Km. These injectors have an orange plastic case. The mechanic returned in about 10 mins saying that they were flowing perfectly, within 1 unit of each other. These have a disc with 4 holes instead of a pintle and 'net research says this design is less likely to foul. Not sure at what model this type was introduced. Replaced 'o' rings and end rubbers when refitting and now I don't have the smell of fuel on startup that I had before:cool:
