Got a question for someone who knows. I have been through the electrical schematic for my Tl magna and can't find a fuel flow sensor of any sought, so I figure that the computer calculates the amount of fuel used by using the air flow meter to obtain a value relative to air flow. So putting in a CAI increases air flow and increases the calculated fuel consumption when in reality it's much better.

The computer recorded 8.8 ave on the highway but when you do it by lt's and km's it was less the 8.

Can someone verify?

undefinedHi WogsRus
You are probably correct that the AFM measures and then computes relative fuel consumption, but the CAI would not actually increase un-metered air flow volume passing thru the AFM It would have an increased fuel charge density due to the lower temp (hence the increased performance) and the AFM has an internal temp sensor to compensate for this.
I think that the conventional method of measured quantity Litres/100Km using the trip meter is always going to be more accurate - Cheers - Barry

I remember something that the computer does a calculation from the N° 2 injector.
Probably looks at the pulse lengths and multiplies by the flow rate for the injector, then divides by the distance travelled.
That's why the instantaneous consumption display blanks out when the car is stopped.

What ever they do, they work well.

My trip computer is always spot on to the last .1 of a litre (100ml).

I fill the tank to the absolute brim so fuel is sitting there in filler, reset trip cpmputer, drive round then fill up again when empty or close to. I check my trip and it may say i have used 62.7 litres, i go and fill up to the brim again and the pump says 62.6 litres. This is always the case where the car is always .1 more which is good being on the safe side.

Have driven heaps of holdens and fords and none of their computers are any where near this accurate. They are sometimes upto 10 litres out.

Do the normal Magna exec's have trip computers also or are they exclusive to the Verada's?

I think the TH onwards had trip computers as well as Verada's.

I fill mine up to the top as well, but my computer is not as accurate as yours. mine is out by about 2L. Would be nice if mine was that accurate.
or well its a lot better than my old 93 magna. just had to estimate on the fuel gauge. :D
