G'day,
I got a problem with my TR Magna, the problem being that the battery light won't turn off. I ignored it until the battery died on me last night. Today i bought a new one (champion, with a CCA of 460) but the battery light still stays on. i don't want to drive the thing incase it goes flat on me again. I was thinkin, seein as you guys are the experts, you could maybe help me out with what the problem might be.
Cheers in advance.

Your Alternator is DEAD and or the relay in the alternator is stuffed.Have you checked to see if your belt has not come off???

Either Replace The Regulator Part Number Re60 Costs About $35.00 Or Replace The Brushs In The Regulator Part Number Gb610 $2.95.
You Will Find The Regulator At The Back Of The Alternator (black Box)with A Plug That You Can Disconnect From It.it Is A Straight Forward Job.i Did This To My Sisters Car.
Enjoy :d

Yeah, that's not a battery light, that's an Alternator Warning Light - generally means your alternator is not charging your battery. I had a similar experience with my TE just recently. Somehow the alternator belt tensioner pulley managed to work it's way free of the locknut and fly away never to be seen again. The belt came off (of course) and the battery died as I was driving home. Bugger...

another posibility is that there is a short circuit in the alternator and this has blown the alternator fusable link, located in the engine bay fuse box.

How about it could actually be the alternator...

Do the following tests using a multimeter if u got one
1- When car is off (ignition key out) put +ve and -ve leads to respective terminals and see reading (shows how much voltage is in battery at moment)
2- start car and connect leads (Test again) should be around 13.5v
3- get some one to rev car and see voltage while revving should be higher than reading in 2.

If reading 2 and 3 is under 13.5 alternator is rooted,,, get new one or reconditioned one.
If in sydney pm me and i can diagnose it for you.

Sorry i'm not sure about alternators but are the brushes part of the regulator? Cuz if your brushes are worn a new regulator wont do anything. Thats what was wrong with my alternator. All fixed now though :).

on another note, it's blowin out a piss-load of foul smelling smoke, especially during warmup. i know its common to blow during startup, but this an obscene amount, definetly more than normal. might this be someonehow connected to the problem mentioned above?

Ah well, at least now i can return the reco one and get my money back. :P
Cheers for your suggestions guys.
