Hi guys. Been having problems with my a/c for quite a while now. Basically the fans will not come on correctly causing the compressor to overheat which means it turns off.. then on.. then off.. so I leave it off and don't use it. The a/c bloke couldn't figure it out. I don't have time nor can I be bothered to take it to an auto electrician.

Can anyone help?

I have an idea of rigging the fan to run when the car is running.. this will obviously put more strain on the electrical system but aside from that I don't see how it could be a problem? I would like to obviously place a fuse in line so does anybody know what size fan I could use?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi mate I had the same problem with my climate control, there was a short in the wireing made the compresser to turn on and turn off. My auto elect put the car on a Dignostics computer and found the fault it cost me $150.00 go to an auto elect as i tried to find the problem for weeks with no luck the auto elect found it in 30Mins

Sounds like a busted thermostat somewhere. I'm surprised the A/C guy couldn't work it out.

Rigging the fan to be on all the time is a band-aid solution. I'd recommend finding the root cause and fixing that.

It sounds like the gadget that switchs it on and off is stuuuuuuffed.. :D

Yeah the a/c works fine.. full of gas but once it's been on for a certain amount of time it will turn on/off quickly which is obviously not a good thing. Maybe I will just see an auto electrician then.. just this has been happening for a good 6 months already now but time/transport is hard to come by.. which is why it's been going on for so long.

The a/c bloke tried something with the relays.. and I think he even hard wired it in the relay box and it still kept cutting in and out.. then he said "can't fix see auto elec".

That's why I was going to dodgey it up.. even though I'd rather not but yeah...

Guess I better face up to it.

Bite the bullet. Meh.

Im a refrigeration mechanic, Rapid switching of the A/C is usually caused by the high pressure safety switch, Many A/C personnel are not fully trained to work with newer refrigerants it would not surprise me if the system is overcharged. If you are in melbourne I would be happy to have a quick look at it for you to see what the case is. lol

Yeah I live in Darwin unfortuntatley.

LONG.. LONNNGG.. story.. I had a car accident and the crash repairs got it regassed as they had to replace the condensor. All fine.. except.. on/off.. on/off.. I said it didn't do this before.. they said prove it.. great. **** you. Anyway.. so they said it was the thingy.. whcih I can't think of right now with a small hole.. and there was gunk blocking and unblocking it.. causeing the pressure to up/down and hence on/off.

How about as a test, the fact that I can run the hose on the condensor and it works fine.. for a good 20 minutes..? I guess I should have said the a/c bloke I saw said it's something to do iwth the a/c fan not coming on correctly.. if at all. I can water the condensor and everything is fine.. and obviously nice and chilly :)

So?

Im about 90% sure from the symptoms you have described it is the high pressure safety switch, this switch will only trip on an overcharged system or a system which has non condensible gases inside. The reason your vehicle runs for 20 mins before it shows the fault is the high pressure side of the system can take this long to achieve a high enough temparature to cause the pressure to rise to an unsafe level. To solve this problem I suggest you take it to the dealer, they will have the correct equipment to solve this problem.
If you decide go elsewhere ensure they vacuum the system down to at a minimum 500micron (to remove non condensibles and any crap). Then re charge the system with R134a till your sight glass shows few bubbles with engine at 1500RPM. If you get stuck or need detailed service information for the a/c system give me a call and I can fax it to you(0422 985 566)

Lube-mobile! They come to you and as far as I can recall they have Air-Con guys as well.

For 20 minutes.. just so you know - that's when I got bored waiting for it to go bonkers. Had better things to do than sit infront of the car with the hose :)

But damn that sucks. Not to sound rude.. but it really does sound like you know your **** Monkey. I guess I'll have to try for a second opinion then.. or maybe just go straight into the Mitsubishi dealers.. sometimes I hate cars..

Oh and we don't have Lube-Mobile here :(
