View Full Version : changing fuel pump

hey guys. i have to replace the fuel pump in my 88 tn and i was wondering whether i have to drop the fuel tank out to do it. If anyone knows please speak up. I waould be vey appreciative. Dan

As far as I am aware removal of the tank isnt neccessary, but removal of the fuel is.

As long as you are careful with removing the fuel and also making sure you dont blow yourself up, I am sure one could do this easily enough.

I had the fuel pump replaced in my 91 Verada just recently and wasnt all that expensive for a mechanic to do it.

done this a few times no u dont, if its efi take the pressure out of the system (turn the car on and disconnect the fuel pump plug till the car stalls then turn the car unscrew the 6 screws holding it it, will be difficult so use a small screw driver, then onnce thats done put a bucket under the drain plug and unscrew it then u should be able to work the pump out easy, install is the reverse

That ISN'T a drain plug. It's the lower fuel pump retaining bolt.

its also the closest thing to a drain plug :P
