ok, so if i drive the car hard, like 5000rpm per gear, which i usually do. i find that once i stop and get out the car, i smell a like burning matches scent. kinda like a large pile of sulphur woffing past me. the smell comes from both the engine and exhaust. and i know the car is way out of tune.
so is this the sign of severely running lean? or do you reckon i have other problems?

ummm hello? :poke: driving an astron engine to 5000rpm all the time...they sound like they are about to explode at those sort of revs...try generally not thrashing your car as much, then see if the smell is still there... :slap:

Could be a lot of sulphur in the fuel you've used? Is the cat stuffed?

if its got a new cat it would of had gaskets put on and they will smell for some time but only when it gets hot it will go away in time

when i say new i mean newer than my stock one which was on my car till about 6 months ago.
thats how old the cat is, 6 months. so its not brand new. but new enough to be worn in......

Any smoke being blown? Using water or oil? Leaking oil anywhere?
