View Full Version : Retrimming
hey guys. Thinking of doing some retrimming on my KR. On the door trims, i was thinking of taking off the carpet/cloth on it and replacing it white vinyl (spelling?). The rest of the trim is a very dark blueish colour.
Also thinking of replacing the wood trim with the same stuff, but that looks pretty hard, so i might need to get it done professionally.
How do you think this would look? I hear that vinyl cracks easy?
Also, what material do you reckon would be best for the seats (front and rear)?
I asked about getting the it done in leather and the guy said $950 for the dash/door trims and about $4500-$5000 for the front and rear seats  So leather is out of the question, at the moment.
Anyway, any feedback is good.
Cheers,
Cam.

i bought 5 meters of dark blue vinyl today to do the door trims. does anyone know if i have to remove all the scews and take the entire inner panel off to take the trim off? you would have to remove the door handle and that because it goes over the top of the trim yeh?
thanks in advance

Woohoo! Another KR Verada in Adelaide! What side of town are you on? You'll have to come out with us on the 7th.
I want to re-trim mine in vinyl due to the extreme cost of leather. I heard someone say its like $600-$700 in Adelaide to get it done in vinyl.

Your door trims and dash and all that stuff is already vinyl...so dont worry about it cracking. Keep it armour-alled and it'll be fine.
I've got pics of my interior in progress somewhere..I have to find the CD.

i can tell you everything you need to know because just yesterday i pulled my door apart to do that exact same thing. to strat with make sure you take out every single screw you can find. there a quite a few in arkward places so make sure you get them all. then youve got to get the wiper handle off which took me a while because the clip you have to pry off is inside a ruber seal. then there are four plastic plugs which run along the bottom edge of the door. pop these out. then you have to get the handle of. using a small headed screw driver and with the handle held open you have to pop the metal wire out of the plastic clip that holds it in. then you have to run your fingers around the edges to make sure everything else is free then you have to pry the top out which has clips holding it onto the window seal by lifting the whole thing upwards. make sure you get it clear from the plastic triangle backing onto the mirror. once you get it all off the handle will just pop out then to remove the clothed panel get a small piece of wire and get it under the teeth of the metal clasps holding it on the back and pry them up and the whole thing should just lift out. then just rip the old covering off and go for it. since youve got it all off now would also be a good time to install any speakers if you plan on doing so. hope this has helped. i wish someone had told me all this yesterday!

Should've asked me Magwgn! I've taken all the door trims off so many times before.
Also the best way to get the clip off the handle is to get a rag behind the handle and work it back and forth until the clip comes loose.
Heaps easier than trying to get a screwdriver in there ;)

actually i thought that was probably the easiest part. i just put the screwdriver in and pop! its just a little half circle clip that can turn on itself so you just pop it off and lift the wire hook out of the hole. all easily done through the handle. one question though how did you cut and install your speakers? thank god ive got a dremmel but i was just wondering? also do your speaker magnets touch the door? does it matter if they do?
when i first pulled the door trims off i actually bought a "special door trim and window winder remover tool". for $10. It is just a flat piece of metal with a funny U shape. Just stick it behind the winder and the clip goes. But oops.. Mine shot off and i lost the first one :( hehe..
Gamisou...
Why was it so cheap? was that for EVERYTHING in leather??? u suk...

I measured out the hole first and then I simply pre drilled holes. Basically I drew the centre of the circle, then the circumference and then I drew lines out from the centre to the edge, like spokes. I drilled in the centre, and then where each line met the edge. Then I used a jigsaw to cut, sections at a time. Makes for a better circle when you do little bits at a time.
No the magnet doesnt touch the door as there is a huge factory space for a speaker right where I mounted it. I can post a pic of it if you want.
