View Full Version : U.S. D Front calipers: Will they fit??

Guys,
It's come down to crunch time. I have to decide if I'm going to buy a set of the Diamante front calipers with the hope of fitting them to our 3rd gens, or just give up.
It's going to cost me about $500, so I would like to be sure they are going to fit before I buy them.
I know that the cars in question are Aussie-export KH and KJ veradas. These cars run 276mm front rotors (same as 3rd gen Magnas) but the calipers are twin-potters.
From what I've found out myself, and from other members here, it looks like I'll be able to make them fit, but with two major questions remaining:
1. Will the bracket from out 3rd gens fit the calipers, or will I need to buy the Ralliart/AWD mounting bracket?
(It seems all but impossible to get the bracket from the D itself, and the Ralliart/AWD bracket is so expensive that it would kill the project. So if the calipers can't use the std. 3rd gen bracket, I'm giving up.)
2. What pads would these calipers use?
(Some suggest KR/KS pads (sounds reasonable), others suggested Ralliart/AWD pads (which doesn't make sense to me, as these calipers are for 276mm rotors, not the bigger 294mm ones))
I happened to see a Diamante the other day in Oregon (it was a KH) and managed to snap a of pic of the front caliper. It was hard to get right in there, so I doubt it will help much. Can anyone make any conclusions based on the pic?
I've looked all over the place, and I can't find a pic of the entire calipers itself removed from a car.
Any help is greatly appreciated guys, thanks very much.

EDIT: I'll try to answer the common question.
There are a few reasons I'm looking into this mod.
1. They will be substatially cheaper than Ralli/AWD calipers/rotors.
2. They (hopefully) bolt straight up so will be quick/easy.
3. I can get multiple sets for other members.
4. I realise the braking improvement will not be as much as the ralli/AWD calipers, but they also cost less. Price Vs. reward you could say.

The calipiers will bolt straight up to our gen 3 magnas with 276mm rotors, i had them on mine before i fitted ralliart brakes and they use a 1223 pad, which is the same pad as some KR-KS and ralliart/AWD and some pajeros and even some EVO with the small brake package
Any question just PM me.

Did you find it was worth swapping to a twin pot on the standard rotors?

wouldnt it just be better to fit the ralliart/AWD brakes first up??

See the edit of my original post for the answer to the "why?" question.

Pads for the KR/S TR/S with ABS are the same number as the AWD
The calipers will need the bracket they come with as the single piston bracket is totally different.
If you use the Ralliart/AWD bracket you will also need the larger rotors as the bracket is what determines where the caliper will sit.
From your post you make me think you are getting calliper less bracket? If so why is this as there are only 2 bolts holding the caliper in place and 2 holding the bracket. Instead of taking the caliper off the bracket they just take the bracket off the hub.
They may be getting confused in telling you that the bracket does not get shipped, in doing so they may mean the actual hub itself. Try and get some pics, post them here and I will be happy to tell you what else you will need.

Yeah it was an improvement over standard but then again it didnt cost me anything for the twin pot calipers

Guys,
Thanks to everyone that has replied.
I now know these will bolt up so I'll be buying a set today and bringing them back to Oz with me in 2 weeks time.
After I fit them to my car and get some pics, I can get some for other members.

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but does anyone know of any larger rotors/calipers that are a direct bolt-in fit for a 3rd gen, as an alternative to AWD or Raliart brakes? It's been suggested to me maybe Pajero brakes, but I have no other details.

i have Diamante breaks on my TE, They stop the wheels spinnin realy good, pity i have piss poor traction. Nearly hit a sign tonite.
If you live in galwer check out a nice set of skids heading north on High street towards the lyndoch road junction. standard breaks and i would have wound up in "Preachers Mans" desk.
