hey everyone,
because it's so f*cking cold... my verada seems to be very clicky and stuff in the morning. I have Penrite HPR30 in it... I had a new motor put in it (done about 15, 000kms now)
I'm thinking that the oil is to thick when cold and I don't want to do damage!
What is recommended? Maybe a 10w 50? Can i go low as a 5w 50 or something?
Should I still use Penrite?
Cheers :D

i have hpr30 in mine as well, good at holding quality but i dont like other aspects...i've had castrol in this before and it was much better for the lash adjusters...about 56$ or so though...im putting it in next oil change i think the synthetic one im getting is a 10w too...

yeah it's the lash adjusters that make the noise for a few seconds everytime i start it cold...
hpr30 is a 20w50 ?
well if you go a 10w so will i!
it's actually due now!

i wouldnt put synthetic oil in my lawn mower its realy only designed for motors with quad cam multi valve crap that cost u a arm and leg when it breaks
I'm currently running shell helix ultra 5w-40w and it runs great.....ehgine starts even in the coldest night in melborne within 2 crank.....further my engine done 260000+ks.
I wouldn't run megnetec ....tried it before and wasn't impressed with it..

hey mate, with an engine that new yeah i reckon HPR30 might be a bit thick, that oil is really good for older engines especially ones that have done over 100 000k's but for a newer engine i would be using penrite HPR15, or a fully synthetic oil, castrol magnatec is probably the best value for money as far as the fully synthetics go, i use it and have never had a problem with it and its the stuff mitsubishi recomends you use, but if you have been scared off the stuff by other peoples experiences then you can fork out a little more and go for some top quality shell or mobile synthetics.. but your gonna pay heaps for it and your engine doesnt really need it so its probably a waste of money.
For my money, either some penrite HPR15 or some castrol magnatec is the oil for you
Hope that helps
EDIT: also heard some good things about MOTUL however it can be a touch difficult to find depending where you live and correct me if im wrong but i think its a bit on the expensive side?
