Hi all

Finally got my amp in today (off on a sicky!). Now the Morel Splits are rated at 120W and the amp at 150W. So I was told to turn the gain down on the amp so I dont damage the splits.... how? I cant find any 'gain' dial.

Heres how Ive set the amp up so far:
I have the LP - HP - Full switch set on HP for tweeter/midrange. (should I set it on full seein as I dont have a sub yet?).
The 50Hz-100Hz dial is set to 50Hz staright from the box.
Then there is a sensitivity dial...??? What do I do with that? Is that the 'gain' thingy?
Currently its set at minimum which was how it came out of the box. The Manual doesnt even mention it.

The X-over for the splits I have set the tweeter to +3dB. I struggles to tell the difference between 0 and +3. The tweeters are to be mounted in the kick panels. Currently they are bluetacked in place. Worked out where Im going to mount the x-overs, and where I want the tweeters, but still trying to figure out a wat of securing them there.

Any advice on what settings the amp should be on would be appreciated!

Thanks heaps
Pete

Sensitivity is the gain control. Like a volume control in the sense that the amp gets louder, but it is a sensitivity control as it is just attenuating the incoming signal from your headunit.

Nevertheless, it will be different according to what you want to hear. You can run full range at the expense of reduced output before clipping sets in. If I were you I would run on the lowest possible highpass you can until you get your subs, then have a play with it when you sort that out.

Ok to set ur gains, once you have set ur low pass. turn the sensitivity control on the amp to minimum, plug it all in. play some music that you know off a cd. (not mp3 as they can be quieter), and slowly turn up the headunit until the signal starts to distort. (Don't get too aggressive here) Once you notice the distortion (you should be able to) turn the headunit back to the highest point before it distorts. Now your headunit's internal amp is at it's peak position (some cheap headunits may do this at 70% volume, others will allow a clean signal all the way through their rcas.)

Once you have found the headunits highest 'clean' point this should be the point that you never exceed whilst playing music in your car.

With the headunit going at that point, slowly turn the gain up on the sub until it starts to distort, turn it back to the cleanest point. Now you have found the highest clean point for the amp at the highest clean point for the headunit.

Therefore you should never do any damage to ur gear... Play around with a full range and a 50hz highpass/80 hz highpass just to see the difference.

Peace

Some amps the gain is marked as "level", or as sensitivity as Time has mentioned.

Sweet thanks again tim!!

Another question though... I got told you have to slowly run amps in... i.e. run them softly for a while and slowly increase the power over a week or so. Is this true?
Also do I need to 'run' the speakers in?

And yes the Morels sound SWEET!!!! I love em!! :D
Just gotta figure out how to mount them to the kicks now.

Cheers

i didnt know about running the amps in, but you will have to run the speakers in at low levels for about 10hrs or so then slowly turn the volume up, even if you were running them off the headunit before id still run them with the gain set low for a while on the amp as the amp has nearly 10* the power of the headunit.

More of an issue with subs
check out

(dont use those tones to break in splits (they're too low) dont need to worry too much about breaking in splits, just dont thrash them when u first get them going and give them a couple of hours run at moderate levels)
Shouldnt be a problem with splits, just that most speakers tend to reach their peak after 75 hours of use or so...
After this, the suspension is nice n soft and is what the speaker should sound like.

Good to see ur happy with the Morels...
