Hey everyone, I've got a KR Verada, that I've owned for about 18 months now.

It's coming up to 280,000 on the clock, and it's got it's own peculiarities, dents, faded paint, etc.

Ideally, I'd like to put KE Verada rims on it, with DBA rotors, KYB shocks, get a reconditioned motor put in, and get it rubbed back and resprayed. The money factor is the only limiting thing, cause all these things will total somewhere near $4000, probably more, which is what I paid for the car in the first place.

But the million dollar question remains, is it really worth doing it up?

Are you happy with the car?

If you can positively say yes you are, then go for it. Otherwise youll regret spending 4000grand on the car as you will never get that money back if you sell it.

If not then save it and buy something you actually want and are happy with.

with 280,000 on the clock i would personally be getting rid of it, it will only be a matter of time before other things start to go wrong...then someting else, then another problem... i just think it is common sense, with a car with high mileage it isnt worth going out and spending heaps on it... but if you like the car and are going to keep it for a long time on it then spend money on it,

but to me its like saying: say a car like my grandfathers for example(not a magna but an example): 1986 XF Fairmont Ghia, in very good condition with 340,000kms worth say 1000 TOPS, needs a respray (2-3k) new gearbox, new tyres, it leaks water through the back somewhere (so new seals) new this new that, new tyres, new stereo, new mags....list could go on and on... spend say $5,000 on it...But at the end of the day it will still only worth $1,500 now maybe, and its still near 20 years old and done a sh!t load of k's...

I just think that when it gets to this situation.... its probably not worth keeping it and spending money on it....

4K aint that much to spend on a car just make sure you dont spend OVER 4 grand cause thats when it gets out of control, set your mind on a target and stay within it. then you'll be fine, but dont go nuts spending money on 20" rims and stuff. 4 grand for a magna could buy a wealth of stuff
18" rims + tyres....1.5K
beefed up stereo......1.5K
Air Filter + CAI + full exhaust system (not including extractors)....1K

so i reckon for 4 grand you could get a pretty nice looking and sounding car of course the prices arnt exact but will give cheap thrills:P

Im spending a fair packet soon on a KS with 130,000km (not the same i know but...)

Now i could sell the car for 4k, save the 4k and 2 more K will get me a 89 non turbo supra.
The reason im blowing my cash on the verada is simply cause I already own it outright.

So far, I've put a K&N in, Top Gun leads, Xenon lights, Pioneer deck, a couple of 6x9s...

The rims look terrible, every single one has been guttered badly, the spare is undroadworthy due to a 1" chunk missing from it... The panels are in good condition, only minor scratches, both front doors have small dents, front and rear bumpers are a bit thrashed, due to people who like to park a bit too close (I love my towball). Inside it's in good condition, carpet is a little bit worn but still looks ok, nothing broken, the gearshift rattles in it's mount, I think somehow a bearing or sleeve has been removed/lost....

But generally, I'm happy with it, it drives well, a little short on grunt but still pulls well, brakes very well, and handles like a dream, (except for the whole body shifting thing)... I like it

If you really like magnas and want to do one up I would say sell it and hunt around for a really good condition low k example. This may cost 5 or 6gs but it will save you having to spend even more on getting all the dents out, repainting, fixing things that have/will break because of the high k's.

Try the auctions and you could get lucky like i did.

I think it would be worth it if you have a thing for 2nd gen Magnas, are financially comfortable, and have a second car in the mean time. Otherwise, no.

try and find a wholesaler, i did and i bought my '92 GLX magna for $600. nothing wrong with it and then if its worth doing up, go for it.

Simple, if you like it...then yes.

If you dont like it that much, then no.

You wont make money back on mods on any car so in reality it's not worth doing up any car in that regard.

also, how long do you plan on keeping the car? some peolple change their car (including a couple of grand in mods) quite often, if its like that then no its not worth it, but if the cars a keeper then go for it, i myself have been in this position with a 2nd gen, but have decided to keep it because i know with the mods i'm going to do to it, the rewards will be worth it in the end
