I don't know if any people on the forums saw, but there was a pair of focal utopia 165w's going on ebay yesterday, so having saved a bunch of money for a new subby I quickly threw that out the window in favour of these babies :) Now I'm kinda scared as I'm fairly sure my amp is going to do them a serious injustice(response 4x100wrms) not so much in power handling but in almost every other aspect.

So I'm asking advice on what sort of amp to run, hopefully under the 500 dollar mark and what sort of deadening to use as I'd prefer to keep the door skins on my car  My wiring is all up to scratch as I put 2 guage in when I started and my RCA's are of fairly decent quality, cost me around 50.

Ohh and finally, has anyone heard these speakers if so, what are they like ?

Awesome mate!

Id say the amps are the smallest link in the audio dept. Try it out with the jaycar first then work ur way from there.

Deadening is essential and good door prep. (mdf baffles etc)
Use dynamat, g spot, serenity max, stinger roadkill etc all good stuff. Of them Dynamat is the best.

For behind the trims use a paint on deadener like sound off.

Focals are very nice, I've heard them on boards. Very musical.

You could get a response 2x150WRMS. I just fitted one to my 120W Morells, and they crank! If you want a quality amp to match your speakers though, lots of people seem to recommend the Audison SRx2. I never looked at it as I didnt have the money, but when I was looking at the Morells quite a number of people recommended it.

Yeah you're gonna have to deaden your doors for that sort of power. Also you will need to make some solid MDF baffles or you wont get anywhere near 165W without the factory plastic mount rattling to bits. Otherwise you'll have the splits and amp and never be able to use them to their full potential.

Cheers

Yep i'd highly recommend the audisons as well. But first things first would be door prep. Cos without it no amp will sound good.

Tape up ur lock rods too with electrical tape (not too close to the mechanisms though)

Mines the older one, got it about a year ago, atm it's driving a cerwin vega dual 4ohm coil 10" sub, so only using 2 channels. Got the 4channel for future expansion :P and yeah it owns the cerwin vega, my gain is set pretty damn low and I can get the sub to lose focus well before the amp considers it but I guess I'll get to really give it a test with the focals, seeing as their 100rms min a channel - As far as sound quality I don't really know yet having only driven a sub, but for driving power they don't let down, I've never even felt it get warm yet.

My fronts are Focal PolyKev 165's and are run by a 4*75w and with the crossovers set on 0dB they could quite easily make your ears bleed.......

Excellent choice and I can only repeat the above advice to make sure you go the extra mile and deaden the door properly (Dynamat Extreme for me and some neoprene pads directly behind the mid) and also run some decent wiring tight through to the crossover.

I have been known to have a numb calf muscle after a long drive with it cranked with the hits coming from the mids!
