my left side H4 drive lights consistently blows. i have had to replace 2 bulbs in a year, which is abnormal. the right one has been ok thus far. one thing i did realise with the left H4 bulb before it blew was that it was significantly dimmer than the right side. at first i thought it was the angle of the bulb but i have tried adjusting it but it was just as dim. anyone thinks it could be an electrical problem? if it is, why is it that it only affects the H4 and why the dimness?

incidentally, i am using philips bluevision bulbs.

Bad earth? My KR kept blowing the LH Highbeam, and that was stuffed wiring. (Only problem I've not ever come across on the first gens)

This sounds like you have a poor earth somewhere - you need to have a look at all of your earthing points around the headlight IIRC if is close to the battery.

Another problem is that you may have a poor connector on the harness at the bulb.

Check your voltage drop with the bulb on per side - do this by using a multimeter from each wire on the headlight connector to the battery - you will either get 12V (ish) or a lower reading (say 1 - 2V) you want to record the lower reading, as this is your voltage drop.

Compare the wires between the left and right hand side, and chase from there - they will not exactly be the same (due to different cable runs) but it will give you a fair idea of which wire to chase,

I highly recommend running the H4 headlights from relays anyway, with heavier guage wire as the stock voltage drop is higher than you would expect. The high beams also benefit from this treatment as well.
