After searching through some full sick neoned cars, i've noticed alot have 4 harsh neons. front, back, and either side. and rather than an awsome underbody glow, it jsut looks like coloured flood lights from their car. During my search i came across the neon wire, than they claim to be used around dash's, bikes, or other little things, but how do u think it'd look lined around the whole underbody of your car? do you think it'd produce enough light to get a nice even glow effect?

I doubt it would be bright enough...

I reckon it would look like one of those houses you see at Christmas with the lights all around it. Would be cool though, if you dropped your keys on the ground near the car at night and had to find them. :D

It would be good because there probably wouldn't be enough glow to see it. so you could talk about it but not have to worry about people seeing it!!
In My opinion I can't stand neons. Plus they are a free ticket to get pulled over and defected.
neon/EL wiring simply wont work dude :| dont waste your money.. unless you wana do swirly patterns in the interior... oooh ooh , do "aussie magna club" in running writing along the back window :D

12V Christmas Rope Light would have some sort of glow to it.
It'd be Ghetto++ Though, and would get covered in dust over time and probably loose brightness.

If you hide it well who would realy know?
the harsh light that u see is almost like a line would be led's actual neon tubes have a better spread where led's because they are a large collections of single bulbs they a more defined light pattern

ive done a bit of reading up on this ambigous topic.. according to AIS code of practice (some document from the queensland transport) says that emergency colours (blue, red, yellow, white) are forbidden, however a green glow would theoretically be okay as long as it doesnt flash or dazzle other drivers. Ive C&P the text from the doc below :)
"Alternative lights
Additional lights fitted to motor vehicles and, in particular, alternative lighting on dressed up
vehicles with underbody lighting, such as neon lights and ultra violet lights, are acceptable,
subject to certain conditions.
(TO(RUM-VSS)) allows lights not mentioned in the standards to be fitted in addition to the
required lights, whereas the former Traffic Regulation 1962 required specific approval, which
was not often granted. Lights that flash or are white, red, yellow or blue are mentioned in the
standards. However, pink lights, for example are not mentioned and could, theoretically, be
fitted.
The use of blue lights are reserved for police vehicles in Queensland but ambulances and fire
engines in other states may use blue lights.
As such, additional underbody lighting such as neon lights and ultra violet lights are
acceptable provided the light omitted is not blue, yellow, red or white. Of the last two, red
lights must not be seen from the front and white must not be seen from the rear. Other
colours are acceptable as long as they do not flash or dazzle another driver."

Pretty sure in VIC all are illegal while the car is running.
Interior and exterior.

Neon Light Laws
1. Actual Neon Tube is not to be Visible at all, only the glow.
2. No Excessive lighting is to be displayed whilst Vehicle is in motion
3.No Glow is to be visible above Eye height.. ( this is measured from the seating Position of average family sedan)
4. If the officer deems your vehilce as to having excessive illumination you can be Defected..
Tips on how to get around lwith as little trouble as possibe
1. Wire the Neons up under the Bumper bars as high up as possible
2. Wire the switch to your Handbrake so they cannot come on unless the Handbrake is on with an additional switch so they can be turned off During the day
3 Install Neons in the boot or underneath the dash, avoid the temptation of wiring any to the roof..
4. Don't get neons and you wont have to worry...
