View Full Version : KE/KF Gearboxes.
Is there a difference between the gearboxes in KE Verada's and KF Verada's? I have a KE and my brother has a KF and his just seems so much more smoother than mine between gears. The age difference is all of six months and the km's are within a few hundred of each other!

The KF had an updated gear box and software. There were a few little problems with some KE's gear boxes and this was rectified in the KF's. Exactly the same gearbox just some different internal parts. Also the software plays a huge role in smoothness of gear change.
If you are concerned about gear change quality, then get a full transmission flush (inc torque converter). Guaranteed results. Always the quickest and cheapest way to get smooth gear changing. Should be done every 50,000 anyway. Magna/Verada boxes arnt very tollarent to dirty tranny oil. They still run but they get notchy in gear changes.
Just had mine done. Gear changes were starting to be quite noticable. Had the flush and it is like new. Wouldnt know the gears were changing if i wasnt watching tacho.
Have also done it to a KE (my KH) and a KJ all with exactly the same results. Back to new.
Will set you back about $180 for full flush.

TigYelWag's Verada is due for that soon so he may be getting it sooner then expected. My KF also has a large Transmission Cooler which i fitted as I have been towing a 19 foot fibreglass boat with it.

Found this info some were else on this forum.
Between services (or if your just short a few hundred dollars) the simplest way to get your
transmission to change smoothly, you need to reset you trannys computer. You may have to do a search as I can't remember exactly.
First disconnect you battery then after a few minutes reconnect.
When the cars cold start your engine and let it idle until the revs are under 1000RPM.
Then shift the tranny from Park to drive 3 or 5 times.
Then shift it from Park to reverse 3 or 5 times.
In my case my tf went from rough as guts 2nd to 3rd changes to smooth as silk.
I've also read it works on most models that have the ECU (Electronic Control Unit)
Hope that helps. Costs nothing to try.
