What's good and what's not?
Anyone done any of these, what are they worth??
Unichip
Greddy
Powerchip
Love to hear from anyone who's done this.

If you use the forum search feature you will find a lot of discussion around this...
I have had a GReddy EManage installed. Bought for $700 late last year without the support tool (software and cable) - big mistake
Quoted install cost of anywhere between $400 to $800... obviously the more you pay the better the install and tune (you would hope anyway!!)
I wasn't totally happy with the install I had, cost $450 which wasn't bad but had a few dramas... and I got just touching a 9kw gain... though I believe it has a bit more to offer personally... I will be getting it retuned soon after some further mods are complete (looking at stage 1 cams now and completing my pod box with CAI)
But do the math... in my case total install cost was just around $1200 (including other small costs) so I basically paid $130+ per kilowatt gain which is pretty pathetic if you think about it... but I do have a 3.0L auto that at last dyno was pulling 124 kilowatts at the wheels, which isn't bad. People know I have terrible launch which kills me at the drags, but I can give most 3.5's a run for their money from a rolling start... a few might vouch for that.
I would only go the GReddy EManage if you are seriously considering taking your engine mods further as IMO the GE is ideal for this, it is a very good product overall... but you may find it difficult to find an installer and tuner who can do the right thing by a Magna... and some wont touch them... you have to do the homework!

I notice you haven't included the Haltech Interceptor on your list of computers. It's worth considering.
If I were you I'd also take Powerchip off your list. There is no tuning capability in a powerchip, it's a best guess effort and you run the risk of damaging your engine - more likely though, you'll end up with a sub-optimal (but *safe*) tune.
There's a bit of info on the 3rd Gen FAQ (http://www.wermspowke.net/wiki/index.php/Engine_Management) about this, but to summarise a little..
Greddy - Has been used on many magas before with good results. You can tune it yourself with the software.
Unichip - Once again, good results from this. You can't tune it yourself though.
Haltech - Good results, you can tune it yourself, perhaps more likely to find tuners with good Haltech knowledge. Official support from Haltech too.
All of these computers do the same thing in the same way, by intercepting and modifying the signal as it comes in from a sensor. Given that, you can potentially get the same performance outcomes no matter what chip you use, it comes down to the tuner and how much you want to spend, time wise, in getting the best tune possible.
IMHO, you should base your decision on these criteria, in order of importance:
1) availaibility of competent tuners for a given product
2) cost per tune * how often you want to retune (i.e. how many mods are you going to do?)
3) up front cost of base unit

go the haltech as there will be alot more support for this in australia
greddy has minimal to no support so you are pretty much paying tuners $88 hour for a software they are unfimiliar with.
the unichip...lots of support just as good as any of the above.
i wouldnt take the "you can tune these yourself" into much consideration as if you did tune it yourself you would most likely stuff the settings up. Always best to get a professional tuner to tune everything cos
1. You will get max gain
2. You wont stuff your fuel/air ratios up
3. You should tune your car on a dyno anyway...whos got a dyno at home? lol

Yeah, you're right.. it's a phrase probably better expressed as "anyone can do the tuning for you", as compared to the unichip where they can't.

Bang for your buck says Unichip. e-Manage if you live in Perth or have a local tuner familier with Mitsu's and e-Manage.

I heard the Powerchip is non-programmable, ie the way it comes out is the way it is...
True or not?

True. It's based on a car they tested with and then the unit gets sent to everyone else. The unrealistic hope is that everyone's car is close enough to see the same amount of gains.

where is underwood??
Southside of Brisbane near Logan. Just off the Pacific Highway on Logan Road.
You will struggle for an actual tuner in Brisbane who tune the e-Manage as their core business however if a tuner does Microtech or a few others, they should be okay. Check with Dave, (Mitsiman).

Just been in contact with turbo tune in adelaide.
They have done a few 3.5ltr magnas with Unichips.
This is what they do:
1. Get a power run of your car stock.
2. You go away and get your exhaust done - 2.5" piping, muffler and extractors.
3. Another power run to measure the diff made by the exhaust.
4. Supply fit and tune Unichip
5. 3rd power run to determine final gains.
Cost: $1280 which include the 3 power runs, and supply, fit and tune of the chip.
He said most of the gains are made in the last 1500rpm (so from 4500-6000rpm) with around a 10kw gain @ the wheels. He said a small gain is made everywhere below that, but its only small.
So thats about $128/rwkw. Thats not including the cost of the exhaust system.
Hope this helps. He also said to get your exhaust and whatever else done first to get the max benefit.
Cheers
Pete
EDIT: Just rang MORPOWA as well. They wanted $1350 for the same thing, but they had only done 3.0ltr, and said it only produced a 5kw gain. He said it made the 3.0ltr a lot more drivable mid-range, but not much peak power increase.
But he reakoned that the unichip was probably the best piggy-back computer you could use as far as cost, ease of tuning and installing, and results go before going to a full replacement computer.

Not saying you are wrong... and I am not trying to imply that the G.E. is better, but one thing I found out in my travels is that many EMS specialists endorse the unichip product and get benefits from promotion... very good marketing by unichip... I don't recall anyone who has one installed though here. Am I wrong?

I had an EMS installed into my old TE V6 3.0L
Not a Wolf EMS... Had a few issues, and also blew up the factory computer after a few weeks of driving :(
After several visits to the mechanic, and dyno tuning and other stuffing about, got it to run very nicely. Was putting out 147.2 HP ATW
Other performance mods included; Pod filter, and duel exhaust at that time.

There are several.
Phonic has had one, revelstone2, TZABOY, Brian (original Fast Magna dude), just to name a few.
Just added this for interest's sake:
