i went to an exhaust place today and got a quote
he asked what i wanted
i said mandrel bent 2.5' pipe from the cat back with high flow muffler
he said well we can do a press bent system cheaper
i said but i been told mandrel bent much better no restrictions
he said they use 2mm thick piping so when they press bend it doesn't crush and cause restriction
what do u ppl think?

2mm thick piping thats pretty thin for an exhaust isnt it??
||<--- isnt that around 2mm???
if so YEah theres no restriction to the airflow.... there is no airflow.... :P
and your saying 2inches.. is the standard magna sumthing like over 2 inches!! im not too cluey with this so i dunno why im replying

Curry,
The standard magna already has a mandrel ,bent exhaust - 2.5 inches is around 62-63 mm, whereas the standard is around 60mm. Not much point going that much bigger - the gains will be next to nothing. A highflow muffler is the way to go, apparantly the lukey will get you 9 hp at the wheels. Better off saving the exhaust money for something that will gain some better results, like maybe a unichip? I've seen an application where they yield 14kw at the wheels, with more power over the entire rev range, plus more torque - That sounds pretty awesome to me - no idea of the price, but Turbo Tune at 959 South Road in Melrose Park supply them. His phone number is 82971030 if you are curious. This has been a long winded reply, but I don't want to see a fellow adelaidian lose money on something with no huge gain :)

max, curry has a ts so not a 60mm exhaust stock (so i believe)
curry, dude, did you go to AAA exhausts at richmond like i told you?
dont get a press bend, if you're gonna fork out cash do it how YOU want it not how some guy is telling you how to get just cause he cant give you wat you want!
Go to AAA, they can mandrel bend any size piping you want right there and then. i've seen some their other work they've done on cars
(there was a drag car when mine was getting done) and they are good at wat they do! the most expensive part will prob be your muffler depending on wat type you get.
my mate got a quote for his Rx cat back and it was $350, that was for 2 1/4 and stainless muffler. if i was you i'd go to them before any of the big name places, but thats only my 2 cents worth. ;)

Curry, get the 2.5" Mandrel bent.
Dont even think about press bends!
I got a 2.5" mandrel bent cat back system with the lukey LR2779 fitted for $490.

2 1/4 inch is the standard on later magna's. as for the 2mm thick pipe, this was a referance to the wall thickness not the pipe diameter.
Press bends will always crush. you have a 2 1/4 inch system if you are te onwards and a 2" system if tr/s
Just watch your size as 2.5 often drones as the pipe is too large and as the air cools it tends to drum inside the pipe thus the drone. Also watch your loudness as you do not want to get a defet.
just a quick question. If i have a 6G72 (93 verada), i have a 2.5" pipe don't i? Do i need to get exhaust upgrades, other than high flow cat and performance muffler.
Cheers,
Cam.

prdaking - don't forget extractors!

I have a 2.5" mandrel bent system with no drone whatsoever.
It's more to do with the resonator and muffler rather than exhaust size methinks ;)

If you're talkin about a chrome/silver tip on the end of your muffler - it wont do anything. if you want noise - resonator. if you want power, you can start by changing the exhaust from the cat back, and then extractors, hi flow cat, etc.

i got the quote from D&T performance it was $490
haven't been to AAA exhausts yet will prob go next week on my day off or on the weekend and get a quote from them
the D&T performance place do a before and after dyno apparently

ok guys. just want to clear things up foreveryone even though they have all been said one thousand times before.
firstly, pipe sizes. the whole tr/ts came with standard 2.25" exhaust. from te onwards this changed to a 2.5" mandrel bend system. perfect for what we have. the only time these would want to be changed is on v6 models for tr/ts up to a 2.5" mandrel, or maybe a bit bigger on the new models if you are going to turbo.
however, increasing the diameter of your exhaust is going to prove pointless and maybe even detramental if you do not have and increased flow of gasses to fill the void. this is why to do an exhaust upgrade you really need to start with extractors. they work like an asthma inhaler. one hit and, whoa! you can suddenly breath a hell of a lot easier. aint no point having big lungs if your windpipe cant suck any air through!
cats. the catalitic converters on the magnas are fairly good. changing to a high flow isnt going to show alot of results unless your pulling some serious hp. although changing over aint going to hurt.
resonators. these do not increase the noise they decrease it. they allow the gasses to "calm down" as they flow through the piping and reduce vibration which lessens the drone that comes with sports exausts.
mufflers. with these other upgrades you need to be looking for a good quality straight through muffler. their are a few brands to choose from, and my exhaust guy told me the best way to tell a good quality muffler is to pick it up and drop it on some concrete.(obviously not from very high) if its good it should make a deep solid sounding THUD. if it pings or sounds like metal on metal stay away! all the tip has to do is be atleast the same size at the outlet hole on the muffler. any more is just for show. hope this has helped.
Hehe, my tip is a section of 2.25" exhaust piping. Yes, I asked for that instead of the chrome tip.
