Ok guys,
I have all the amps and subs i need to start my boot install. But i'm really having a hard time deciding just how i should go about it. Which is why i'd like you guys to brainstorm for me :P.
Basically i dont want a show stopping boot display, just something that looks neat, at the moment i have wires and **** going everywhere and it's just one big mess  .
I have 2 amps, and 2 12" subs (though the boxes are different sizes).
Now what i had in mind was...
...Mounting the amps to a side of the boot each, ie. have one on the left, one on the right standing upright against the side wall of the boot. Then have a piece of wood covering the subs going accross my boot behind them (so you cant see anything). I know this will make my boot seem smaller, but it'll look so much neater. Now my problem is, just how the heck do i do it?
For the amps i was thinking of getting a piece of wood that would fit nicely against the side of the boot, carpet it of course, and maybe use velcro clips to secure the piece of wood to the boot (have a few down the bottom and a few either side of the board), then cut a nice hole in the top and bottom of the board (where the wires can go through). Similar deal with the piece of wood covering up the subs. Now i figure, yeh measure the boards to fit and all that, carpet, mount etc. It's just HOW i should go about it all that i cant decide whats best on
So What do you guys think?

Do you have matching subs?
I'd recommend making a sealed split enclosure for them for starters. making it the right size so it takes up the least amount of boot space.
Idea of the amps on the side is good.
But the idea of two diff shaped boxes doesnt do it for me :)
You could even get a basic pre fab 2x12" box.
Peace

I bought one sub a year ago and bought my new one about 2 weeks ago and they didn't have the box i bought a year ago anymore (had just sold the last one apparently  ).
That's why i wanna put up a piece of wood so that you cant see the subs, almost like a wall of the boot. The subs face towards the cabin btw (i like punchy bass :D). My mate wanted to swap his box for my box (his is same as one of mine) cuz his doesn't fit in his boot (too tall) and my other one is shorter, i may do the swap, but i still wanna know mounting options etc.
Thanks for your input though :). Every little bit helps!

If these are just prefab boxes, Id imagine that they arent very tall and generally have a big footprint. Say you made one box that was taller so had the same volume, you could save a lot of boot space. Not to mention the audible benefits of having identical subs in identical enclosures. (Bass would be less muddy)
Do you need to keep the boxes they're in? Or is a totally new box an option ?
Peace

Well Ideally i'd like to keep the boxes they're in, because i'm a tightarse and dont wanna spend money on something that i can do without :P. I'd say they'd take up about 1/3 of the length of the boot (length being from the boot lid to the back seat). I mean different sized boxes arn't gonna be a problem if i cover them up, cuz no one will know.
The subs i have now you probably couldn't get new anymore, but i dont wanna buy another sub for the same reason i dont wanna buy another box. My stereo is a bitsa though, i can name 7 differant brands in my sound system :P.

lol Join the club with the bitsa... Only way to go...
Cool, well if you can build the split then thats the way to go, hardest part is making the measurements right, try using a lot of cardboard first to measure it up right, otherwise you'll be there all day making it perfect.

Two different types of subs, rear mount one, and one normally, chuck it in the spare wheel well. carpet it up, look nice.

Different Box sizes will affect Sub performance..
Each sub should be in an enclosure that suites it.
I would advise using two subs of the Same Calibre then Two different ones...

Let me just point out that there are 2 DIFFERENT subs in 2 DIFFERENT boxes, and they do sound ok together :). You guys are missing the point here :P, i just wanna know how you mounted your wooden boards to the actual car? And any tips like that :D.
Cheers!

Also i'd like to ask where can you buy the same carpet that my car has? Just go to a wreckers and ask for a piece of boot carpet from a TR? and then cut it to shape?

Yes and Two Different subs will perform differently to each other, one will be pumping its heart out and the other one will be barely moving
its your system so your the own who will have to live with it so shall it be...
As for mounting walls, I have no Idea as I have only installed fronts and rears and head units to 2nd Gens, not A Boot install that required a wall..
A False floor is a little easier..
Pull out your existing carpet measure it, go and get the necessary carpet you need from an Automotive upholster or Carpet court ( both will be very dear).
Get a Sheet of 18mm MDF . Layout your Stock boot carpet onto it and make a Template, Trim to fit and make sure you will have access to your Spare by either Hinging a section or by having a Removable section that can be lifted out...

OK i've just been outside and had a look, and came up with this idea.
Actually Link the sub wood with the amp wood, then they all could support each other standing up right, and would be easily removable :). Also should i mount the amps on the boot side or the wall side? Do the amps need heaps of breathing space?
I have enclosed a very detail drawing of my idea :P. The black lines are obviously the boot shape roughly.

yeh good luck getting that in and out, my boot install is heaps smaller and only just comes out of my boot on an angle.
Also i would use pc fans to cool your amps, i use 3 of them for my 2 amps and its like an air conditioner in my amp box so nice and cold for my amps to have fun in....
