View Full Version : Advancing timing=Performance???
Does anyone know if advancing the timing on my tj 3.5 would be beneficial in anyway?
eg performance, fuel economy
If so: a) How do you do it?
b) What are some considerations? eg premium fuel etc....
Cheers.........

Yes. It's half the benefit of getting your car dyno tuned.
Fill the car with the fuel you want to have it tuned too and go get a piggyback chip or replacement EMS fitted and tuned.
You will probably only be able to use that RON fuel from then on. The gain in ecconomy is probably only apparent when it's in open loop as the factory map for WOT is pretty rich.

Yeps like redav said, advancing equals power and economy, it also equals the requirment to use better fuel to prevent pinging. But sadly on a magna an aftermarket ecu is required to play with the timing :( so that basically puts it out the window unless you have other reasons for using another ecu.

It's worth mentioning that, according to Haltech, you have full control over ignition timing even in closed loop mode.

True? Interesting. I bet most tuners wouldn't tune this unless you asked for it.
