I dropped my car into Kmart Tyre and Auto this morning for a checkup, and when I went to get it this afternoon I was given a list of the follwing things:

Front Suspension Faulty
Front Calipers Overtight
Both Front Wheel Bearings Excessive Freeplay
Steering Rack Leaking
Front Disc Rotors Undersized
Rear Disc Rotors On Min. Thickness
Battery Failed Test
Auto Transmission Faulty
Valve Stem Seals Worn
Rear Main Seal Leaking

I almost cried...

When I spoke to the mechanic who'd worked on my car, he said that it'd been very badly cared for, right from the beginning (I've had it about 18 months). What stumps me is that the service records show that the car was serviced at a Mitsubishi dealership, right up until I bought it... Since then, I've had it serviced at a reputable service centre.

Apparently, the gearbox is full of loose metal, the solenoids in the transmission are faulty, the front suspension has almost collapsed, the front rotors are 4mm past the legal limit, the front wheels rock from side to side on the hubs, both front wheel bearings are shot... The thing that really scared me was that the front left CV was being held through the hub by a piece of wire... there was no nut, just a piece of wire through the hole where the split pin is supposed to be...

The car is now unroadworthy... Die evil red verada

I'd get a 2nd opinion, and then if it's still the same verdict, find out what was supposed to be replaced at your last few services and if they've done a dodgy on you take it back to where you got it serviced and demand some answers.

um i think you would have noticed it driving that bad before you put it in?? i could fix most of that list myself; by the way my mechanic who i get to do cv's only said my main seal between gearbox and engine was leaking when oil had just run down from tappet covers....if you trust them to fix that it'll cost a bit though

its the worst feeling huh? I remember when I took my TR in to get a checkup, the list of problems was about 4 pages long, I think I did actually cry...

Geez, don't put ur car in the hands of K-mart tyre and auto!!! I let them do the service on my car twice, they said I needed new lifters, I knew this and let them do it! They ended up blowing the motor in my car!! Buggered if I know how, but apparently they bent a valve or valves, and put the lifters in the wrong way around!! After me going to the solicitors, they come to the party with $2000 dollars to get it all fixed..!! K-mart should stick to sox and jox, not cars!

Those are some pretty major issues though, you'd think that you would notice the car driving like **** to be that bad. I'd personally get a 2nd opinion, but make sure you dont tell the 2nd guy the problems kmart found.

I agree, get a 2nd opinion and don't tell the other mechanic..! When I picked up my car from dodgy k-mart, it was gushing out blue smoke from the exhaust, never blew smoke before, and it reaked of petrol.. straight after me jumping up and down and yelling at them, "bang" car died...! F**K that was it, I went through the roof at them.. Luckily the mechanic that repaired there damage, did a awesome job, and lucky k-mart agreed to pay the bill, but it shouldn't have happened to begin with. Get a 2nd opinion.
