Hi guys i,m new to your imformative forum and have a problem with the above.Upon the oil light coming on a few minutes after the car is running i checked the oil and was satisfact on the dip. With the engine running i removed the rocker cover cap and the top of engine was dry with no splash.Assuming the worse we removed everything that has to be removed to get to the oil pump(UNBELIEVABLE LABOUR),however once removed all seems to be ok,but the oil pump pressure relief valve was sticky.Would it be your opinion this would cause the prob.P&A advise me that it is rare for 1 to ask for a oil pump( infact 1 only in 5 years). My KS XI 94 3.0 litre has only done 79000 easy kms. Also it was driven about 10 kms with the light on so i hope i havn`t done any damage to the top.Hope someone can advise. Regards Dave.

if the pressure releif valve was stuck open yeah it could have been the reason for the light being on, however id think that damage most likely would have been done considering the low kpa that these lights are activated

TY meph. i am also about to replace the belts and cam seals etc while i have the cover s off and have access.seems appropriate due to the labour in gaining access at a later date.i was surprised to see i had to drop the sump cause the oil pick up is attached to the oil pump, ty again.

The pump might be ok it might be the oil pressure switch.

hi speedy, i did note that the top of the motor had no oil while engine was running, i,m starting to think the oil pump is ok but the relief valve wouldnt allow the oil through(maybe new relief valve) ?The oil pressure switch would still allow oil through if faulty , wouldnt it ? Also i noticed the relief valve was scored up one end.

welll, engine is all back together and running sweet.Serviced, tuned, new belts oil pump relief valve and so quiet again.Fortunately the only damage was to 1 lifter. :)
