Sorry guys but i know im a bit anal about this but i like to drive with my lights on - especially round here where it seems that most people want to play kamakazee wiht me...
Where and what colour is the wire that turns the headlights off when you turn the key to off? and where and what colour is the input to the parking lights? You see if i jump this wire onto the parking lights i can then trurn the car off whilst leaving the lights on and the car will turn them off automatically...

Fair comment... but yes BLKMAG is right - 89 TP SE....

sorry, but how would the car turn the lights off by itself?????
battery drain perhaps?
there is 1 cheap nasty way which is to hot wire the link from the parkers and headlights, but as i said
its nasty, plus extremely dumb
if u have a car alarm some have programs to do what u want all u need is a horn relay and few lengths of wire with access to the control module.

Ok - you know how now when you turn the car off with the headlights/parkers on it turns the headlights off and not the parkers, well i was thinking of splicing the input (or that turny off wire) to the parkers as well so i could leave them on all the time. Just like you can do in new cars these days. And there wouldnt be any battery drain as the lights are off as soon as you turn the ignition off like it already does now. Yes there is a car alarm that is on the car but that is where the problem lies - its "on" the car - not "in" the car...
i might have missed something......
but how hard is it to just flick the switch when u want your lights on.....and flick it off when u want the lights off....... :doubt:

ok, the fact u said car automatically turns lights off confused what u were typing. for the switch alone to turn it on/off whilst not having the key in the ignition is what ure trying to achieve. full stop.
the reason the car does this which i like more so is due to not having a headlight alarm on, so if u leave the lights on u dont know. most toyos have a buzzer that sounds if u have no key, door open lights on, the magna merely has the lights go off.
lol now establishing that i can help, lol
i personally wouldnt be altering it as it is, but instead having a 2ndry wire with a switch, kinda like driving or fog lights.
this mainly ensures the fact u may forget about them.
unless ure gonna install a buzzer.
i'm merely thinking of ure battery the day u leave them on and really need to get somewhere. :D

Why is everyone concerned about the battery when its being taken out of play when the key gets taken out of the ignition? As in if i do what i want to do, when the key gets taken out of the ignition the lights get switched off and as far as the car is concerned the lights on the stalk have been swithced off. Having siad that though i will just try and find a manual with the wire coluors on it and do what i want to do and then actually show you what i mean,.... i might not be explaining it too well

so, u want the key to act like an inserted push button? so key goes in power comes on, and then u have the 3 settings, acc, on and start...
ummm, i'll accept it when i see it, but i dont know of a car that does that... i know release of key activates the steering lock, but thats not electrical.
renault laguna can, but its not a key.

i know what u mean commodores do it
its not really hard to trig it up u will just need to chop the parker wire in the dash then re run that wire to the relay of the headlights because your headlight relay switches on when the keys on acc/on
that way you will be able to keep the switch on either parkers or headlights and have them off then the cars off, its not a bad idea really some may say its lazy but often ive left my headlights on turned the car off with out turning the switch off and my parkers have stayed on of a long time
I understand what he's trying to do.
Your best bet is to find an ACC wire, and wire a relay to that, then to the headlight relay.
Silicon Chimp had a Daytime running lights project a coupla years back. I'll get you an exact issue when I get home.

I completely understand what you want to do. I myself ran into the same problem on my 2nd gen, I usually have my headlights on during the day, then of course when I park the car and leave, I forget to turn the lights off.....do'h! At least my 3rd gen has a buzzer to remind me to turn the headlights off.
Okay so what you want to do is totally feasible. The problem is if you want to use the headlights without the key then you'll have a problem.

ahh yess i forgot to mention this, the commodores use a computer system so all you do is turn the switch off then back on again then ur lights on but of course you cant really do that

HALLE-FREAKING -UJAH..... It was obviuosl ythe way i was explaining it... but yes just like the commodores - my MIL has a berlina which is where i got the idea. As far as i was concerned it was only a matter of taking the headlight "on with ignition" wire and splicing that into the parking lights - a 5 minute job that would fix a lot of my haedaches and not to mention make my life a hell of a lot easier. So what colour is the wire for the headlights that does this and which one do i splice into with the parkers?

after tryin to do the transmission mod to my car, i found out the hard way that the wires arnt always the same colour
Might be safer to find a wiring diagram if you can make sense of it...
