Has anyone or does anyone know how to elimate the Engine vibe from a 1994 TR Magna Station wagon. It vibes at idle, in Drive, real bad from 700-1200 RPM and a real ripper goes through the car when accelerating at 1700 RPM. We have, I believe, replaced ALL engine mounts (with standard ones), had the motor partially rebuilt at the same time we had the timing gear replaced. We have also jacked the motor up adjusted it's placement within the engine bay half a dozen times. Nothing appears to work. Transmission has also been reconditioned. It has done it from day one! (What a dud I was buying it, I thought it was just running rough and needed a tune up)
Any idea's!!!!

all 2.6 magna's have a vibe at idle so wouldnt be too concerned about that.. one at 1700rpm tho is a bit different...

When you had the timing gear replaced, did they replace the balance shaft belts? may be one tooth out on the Balance shafts. My 2 bobs worth anyway.

RJL25,
When you say the 2.6 lit engines all vibe at idle, are we talking about rear view mirror shaking terriority here? 'Cos the Magna is really vibing. If I talk to any Mitsubishi mechs about it, they keep talking about engine mounts.

Mattg,
Yeah, apparently so. We have a small stoush going with the engine rebuilders who claim the engine was rebuilt perfectly and any vibe (which was present from when we bought the thing) is due to something else (like the gremlin on "Twilight Zone" ripping into the plane)

umm i dunno about rear view mirror shaking.. but certainly my TR had a very noticeably vibe at idle that would make any loose objects in the car vibrate.. its really hard tho to know if what your talkin about is normal or not tho without actually seeing it

Yeah,
It sounds like a normal TR vibe from your description. Any clues on how to solve it? I would find it hard to believe that any one would buy the car in it's present state dispite a reco motor and being in otherwise good condition.

Does this vibration occur whilst off gear (ie. neutral) ?

Tecodan,
It is still "there" BUT not as bad. I would also say in reverse, the effect is also dimished. I had considered perhaps, tailshaft is out of balance. Thoughts?

Mine was smooth as, even with 210,000 on the clock.

Well, they're front wheel drive, so they don't have tailshafts, but I guess it's possible you have a bent half shaft or CV or something.
