It started 2 months ago, the voltage would drop and the battery fail light would illuminate, this would last for approx 1 minute then the voltage would lift as if nothing was wrong, this happened regularly and got progressively worse. The other day, went to start vehicle, it would crank over and proceed to start but as soon as you let go of the key and the ignition is on the ON position, the engine dies out. I can tell that the fuel cuts out as soon as i let go of the key on start up. If i hold the key on the start pos. i can rev the car and the engine does run, so the fuel pump is working. I suspected it may have been the control relay under the dash, but i replaced it and no change. I have checked all fuses, relays etc, but nothing. Has anyone experienced this problem?

If you're able to crank the engine with just the key, then that means theres enough juice for the battery to power all the other electrics.

I would say there are two unrelated problems (or semi-related).

this sounds pretty close to what happened to me... i didn't have any problems leading up to it, but my car would start for about 3 secs and then just die... you could crank it all u want but would never actually run.

mine turned out to be a stuffed ECU or BEM :(

Is your car an EFI? If it is I suggest that check the CAS ( crank angle sensor ) on your distributor, must be corroded or something. What CAS does is it sends signal to the ECU for the ECU to allow the ignition coil to give a spark and for the injectors to inject fuel on the cylinders. Happened to my magna TR lately and I traced the problem to the CAS, I ended up changing the distributor assembly though coz I found it difficult to replace the sensor module on the distributor alone. Cost me $140.00

My power steering belt keeping keeps either falling off and getting shredded. At one point there was a strip of the belt that was loose and flying about. Guess what's above the top pulley? The CAS connector. When the strip knocked the plug off the engine instantly died. This happened twice. The second time I cut the strip off on the way to work with a metal ruler.
