hey

i have 2 questions,

1) is the 2.6 in your magnas the same as my sigma?

and

2) is it possible to/has anyone turboed this motor???

i am highly interested in having a turboed sigma and someone has said you can only turbo the 2.0 astron 1 sigmas, but i figure if you guys have the same engine as me and have done it, well then obviously i can too...

Yes, the engines are the same, except the Sigma is RWD and the Magna is FWD...obviously. lol

You can turbo anything, and the 2.6 Astron is no exception. As far as Sigma's go, there was a model that actually came out turbo'ed, if you could aquire a manifold from one of these (Not easy) Then its going to make the job a whole lot easier.

Before you turbo your car, you really need to decide what the car is going to be used for, will it be for the dragstrip? Or will it be street driven. Then you need to decide how much power you are wanting to extract from the motor, once you have told us this, we will be able to give you some more ideas on what to do.

Or if you a lot of resourses you could acquire the gear from a European or US starion which came with a turboed 2.6.....

1) there slightly different as the water pumps in the block where as ours arnt and i think the sigma block is a tad wider or shorter i cant remember

2) lots of people have turboed sigmas both 2 and 2.6 i have heard 200+kw out of turboed 2.6's as well so yes its possible

The manual Sigma block is narrower than the Magna (or Auto Sigma block)

The water pump is in a different location.

The auto block and the Magna block are identical.

hmm.

well you learn something new every day.

basically i am wanting a street driven sigma, with the power to keep up and the wow factor of a ptsh.

i know i could have searched this topic, but i figured i would look for some more recent information...

ok, so say i cant find a standard turbo manifold from the gh turbo, (which i think is either 2.0 or 2.6 astron 1, whereas i have the astron 2) what would anyone recommend i use, and what sort of turbo would be suitable?

intercooled or non intercooled???

YOu could go and fabricate your own manifold, you need to be a capable welder, and be able to fabricate your own flanges, its pretty simple once you have the hang of it, or you could keep looking and wait for one to come up, it will eventually.

As for a turbo, there are a lot of options, TD04L, RB25, T3/T4....ALl of these are good for an Astron.

And i would reccomend an intercooler, your going to make more power from it, and its better for your turbo in the long run.

cool, cheers for that...

well im sure you will see a result spooner or later

Expect to pay about $800 for the manifold. Have to use heavy gauge pipe to support the TC and IC plumbing without cracking and being killed by the heat. Forget stainless - can't take the heat.

Dump pipe is extra. Probably $150+ with flexpipe. Not many shops do custom work like the good old days.

i saw a sigma at a car show a while back that had its original 2.6 block, had magna EFI head on it (heavily ported), chunkyer cam, forged pistons, fully balanced bottom end and a single turbo being run off a custom manifold. He said he was running the engine "safe" at around 10psi and was getting around 200hp at the wheels, but he reckons he can push the engine to about 16psi and get very big power

$800?? What are you smoking bro?

I called around today, and got quoted anywhere between 200 and 400 to get a manifold done for a Sigma...

If you have mate who is any good with a welder, get him to weld you up a manifold for a slab or two, thats the best way.

Didn't say that was my price. I know that most shops charge $200 per cyclinder for Turbo manifolds. As soon as "turbo" is mentioned they start counting the $ they think they're gunna make. The manifold would be worth more than the car!
