Considering the sound quality in the KH's are good, I don't really want to spend lots on a new system. But it does need a bit of extra kick, is there an effective way of hookin up a sub to the standard head unit? or will I have to go buy a new HU?

you can't hook a sub up to the standard headunit. If you really have very little to spend, you can upgrade the existing speakers.

technically, u can, but it would sound like ass.

why not use high level input on the amp from the rear speakers? that'll be the easiest way to put a sub in your car with the same head unit

do you think it'd be worth replacing the whoel system?
Or would a new HU and sub (+amp?) do the trick for not spending alot of moey, but giving you're sound a good kick?

i'm taking it you're a bass junkie?

if so, then yes, it will.

New HU + amp + boxed sub will certainly give u a good kick in the right direction. Just go easy on ur speakers after that...dont turn them up too much lol

haha, roger that :P
any system you reccomend?
I've had a look at the pioneer subs, screwed if i know they model number, they're grey :P and seemed to be a good price. grab a pioneer HU to go with that?
I want somethign with a high ohm output so i get lots of bass and room to upgrade speakers.

I've grown up around high sound quality all my life, i can't stand no bass :P

Yeah the pioneer subs are very good for the price, They put out a very puchy type of bass over the deeper boomber type that other brands like kicker puts out.
As for the head unit, i think most people on here will agree that they are a very good qual head unit. I personally have had a pioneer DEH-5450 deck for about 2 years and have been very happy with both performance and functions.
The base models now come with MOSFIT (think thats it) power. Gives much stronger signal.

If you don't have the greatest amount of cash, i would recoment looking on ebay for a deck. I wouldn't by a second hand sub, as you don't know how much punishment it has taken.

If you buy of ebay, make shore you leave enough money so that you can buy wiring, as most of the time they don't come with it. :)

I recomend Alpine sub and amp combo cause damn do they go hard.

My sub and amp are currently in a friends lancer to help him sell the lawnmower but damn that car gets shaken to peices at low volume with the sub turned down.

I think we have dislodged a few panels as now more things shake each time i get to go in it.

Also i gotta love how cool the amps look with the digital display.

My system cost about $550 for Monoblock MRD-300 amp with a Type S 12" sub and a very kool home made sub box.

But as eek will tell ya there is better then alpine but im happy with mine thus far for my first system.

But while we're at it. Due to my line of work, I get discount on some sony products. at the moment they have a few car audio units, what are you opinions these - for the price
Sony XTLW7000 - In-Car 7” motorized display. Built-in TV tuner. Rear & front inputs. - $800
Sony MEXR1 - In-Car DVD, MP3, JPEG & VCD playback in your car. - $400
Sony CDXS2210S - In-Car MP3 & ATRAC CD player with remote. - $160
Sony CDXS2010T - In-Car CD player. CD-R/RW OK. - $135

The DVD player and moniter are looking attractive right about now! But, from research, sony car audio is quite average?

I'd say below average, but I haven't ever seen the quality on their screens. Their speakers, subwoofers, and headunits are of poor quality though.

oh dear god
i'm going to hop on the bandwagon and say sony sucks.

But really....since you're on a budget..(are you?) definately ditch the idea for a monitor..esp since it only has a TV tuner in it.

no use getting a dvd player if u don't have a monitor...so u coud probably get that mp3/cd player.

yeh, i'm on a budget, but 50% off LCD screen! how can ya go wrong? :P
maybe the sony screen with a diff HU?

Oh also, will the verada CD stacker just plug into a new HU?

No, the stacker won't plug straight up to another head unit. And to get such a thing happening, you might as well buy another stacker and replace the factory Verada stacker.

I suppose with that money you couldn't get a DVD/TV/LCD all-in-one unit. Unless u went 2nd hand or whatever.

just go the screen and dvd player then. You'll be smiling for ages :)
