Just wondering if anyone has any expereince between this 2 units. The Sony has a 7 band equalizer, the Sound stage function and BBE while the Pioneer has EEQ+ EQ-EX, SFEQ ?3band equalizer and BMX...oh and 60W x 4 outputs and 6.5V preamps
Does the SOny sound stage thing make a big difference. Does Pioneer have an equivalent? Is a 7band equalizer more useful ? And what do all the Pioneer equalizer acronyms mean?

I own The DEH-P1Y and i love it u can control everything from inside the car and it sounds great i have only had one problem with it and that was the mechanical face motor stuffed up and they blamed it on my car bumping around to much but i dunno i love it and u can really tweak everything from the head unit i mean everything its great :D

My mate has that sony unit but I would prefer the Pioneer 5750mp over the sony ( my other mate has that and i have a 5650mp ), the pioneer is just so much better built and easier to use, we had to read the entire manual 5 time to find where on the sony unit you can turn the remote turn on wire on in either tuner or CD mode ( wasnt turning on in CD mode therefore no amp power ).
Not saying it is crap because it is a sony, cause it is ok, but out of the 2 the Poineer has better tuning features that are easier to get to. The sound stage thing in the sony is ok but wouldn't you rather just install your splits properly in the first place?

Wow this forum is great - 2 replies so quickly - thanks!
I was thinking of keeping my stock speakers to start off with - don't have space or money for amps and splits.
Can anyone tell me what is the difference between BBE and BMX?

By the sounds of it you have a GTV which comes with a terrible 3 way sound stage, but it is a start. My mate has the 5750mp in his GTV and he likes the way it sounds so yeah personal opinion. The sound stage DSO on the sony wont help you if you have the GTV as most of your mid and treble comes from the dash... and you cant get much higher unless you want them to sound like they are in the roof :bowrofl:
Pioneers BMX helps for low bit rate MP3's etc extending the lower and higher Hz that are sometimes lost in compression at high volume. There are 2 BMX settings and 2 comp settings, I think you mean the sony F7710 which my mate has, it has BBE which does the same thing as BMX just a different name for 2 companies.

BMX (BiMetric Equalizer), Improved Sound Quality for Compressed Music. Audio compression formats such as MP3 and WMA tend to lose high-frequency sound levels, especially in passages where the recorded signal input is low. Pioneer’s new BMX (BiMetric Equalizer) compensates for this by boosting playback of the upper frequency sounds, to the benefit of the overall musical balance. This is delivered within a menu option on equipped models that includes Digital Compression (“Comp”) at two levels and BMX with its two level selections.
BBE is just digital signal enhancement. I thought they where the same thing, guess not.
AWD sports have splits already I think.

Yeah eek my 5650mp has an AUX in so im sure the P1 has one as well. The sony does and they are RCA style, so you can get a cord that has 2x RCA on one end and a since 3mm?? jack on the other and use your ipod, CD walkman etc ( yes I know it is a cd player but yeah ).

It comes down to Reliability.. The Pioneer has proven to be more reliable over a long period of time..
This would be the only case where I would go for looks.. To me the Pioneer would be the better choice..
