This is one the web site:

Pioneer Electronics has again proved its status as a world leader.

In the American Spring Break Nationals competition held early this month, the Pioneer USA team broke SPL world records with the TS-W5000SPL subwoofer and new PRS-D5000SPL amplifier.
The Pioneer Pro Series SPL amplifiers made a dramatic debut by setting four world records and achieving three "Highest Ever" awards.

As the newest member of Team Pioneer, Steve Cook was awarded the loudest overall competitor at last year's finals. He has replaced his amplifiers with 16 PRS-D5000SPLs, and will soon replace his woofers as well. Cook bettered his result from last year's finals, winning the Extreme 3-4 class and setting a new world record with 175.0dB. In the IASCA dB League (IdBL), Cook also won his class and set a new world record with 177.1dB.

A legend in the DB Drag Racing circuit, Scott Owens now has 52 of the new PRS-D5000SPL amplifiers and 13 TS-W5000SPL woofers in his record smashing truck, securing unprecedented results. In dB Drag, Owens won the top level Extreme 5+ class with 176.6dB - beating the second place finisher by almost 7dB. He also set a new world record with 175.8dB. In MECA, Owens won first place in the X3 class, was the loudest car of the competition, and also set the "Highest Ever Recorded in MECA" with 176.2dB.

In IdBL Owens achieved 179.0dB. Head judge Moe Sabourin said, "That was the highest score EVER recorded in IdBL, and actually the highest score EVER recorded on an Audio Control system!"

Owens backed that up with a 178.8dB to set the new IdBL world record and take the win in Ultimate 4 class.

Owens and Cook were acclaimed as the two loudest cars at the show.

Michael van Raay, marketing manager of car electronics at Pioneer Electronics Australia said that the establishment of the world records using Pioneer’s pro series amplifiers and subwoofers consolidated Pioneer’s dominance in these hardware categories.

"Pioneer prides itself on its research and development. These results are yet another example of our ability to produce high quality products, with technological advancements that flow right throughout the Pioneer range," he said.

Scores and Records:

It's slightly different considering they probably had about 50 Pioneer subwoofers just to hit that level. Pioneer have some great products in the higher-end lines, the competition stuff, all the JB Hifii stuff is all pretty weak and cheap.

Am I the only person who thinks these soundoff contests are a load of ****?

Im more impressed with a Good system in a daily driver that still kicks.

Ok, there is no need to build a Huge Install of all Subs and no other speakers.
I acheived 141.2db SPL in a SPL test I had done on my Subs 3 Years ago ( RTA Meter Sat on the Front passengers seat at regulation Dashboard height)

Now at 130Db SPL your Heart stops beating.. so you can imagine the sound Pressure at 141.2db which is roughly 3 times as loud... Hence the reason why there are so man yregulations with SPL.. It is also handy to have a Remote controlled Head unit...
That was done with my Current Sub set up in a Way smaller Sedan and I had way more power to the subs then I have now... and I used a Sine Tone of 45Hz to do it and 30 Secs to burp it ....

You can acheive High SPL on your everyday system as long as you have Decent Subs, Powerfull amps and a Test CD......Just because you have a High SPL system, it does not mean that it is going to sound Crap.... you just fade out your rears, unplug your fronts ( if they are amped or just disconnect them while you Burp if you have them powered off the Head unit) then reconnect them all later...

SPL comps are a sight to see, some of the Big guns have panels re-enforced strapped down and they still manage to flex..... Some can give you a heart flutter in your chest from 10 metres away....

I prefer a Good old fashioned Street Sound off, where your system is judged on SQ and SPL...

yeah, those guys with their soundoff SPL drags are purely chasing dBs, nothing else. So if you were to listen to it as a daily driver, it would probably sound like complete ass, as the front stage would most likely be unable to keep up with the sub.

ok, maybe if he had half a dozen set of 3 way splits and a dozen horns in the front maybe. lol

all the do are bloody burps n stuff....
i made a test one cd a few days ago....i love listening to it, and i can play the sweep when i'm driving.....its like as if my car has a low sounding exhaust :bowrofl:

Couldn't agree more, it's less competitive, and just more fun. Everyone having a good laugh, bit of fun over it, none of this rediculous 175dBA. No one is actually ever going to drive around while their stereo is at 175dBA.

What the hell? I'm gonna go to QLD just to blow all them away. Not one of them got over 130db? You could hit 130 just with 1 12" sub

Siccness - 141.8dB

Just to clear something up,
Magnat you said
"Now at 130Db SPL your Heart stops beating.. so you can imagine the sound Pressure at 141.2db which is roughly 3 times as loud... "

Wrong. 141.2 db is roughly twice as loud as 130db.

Basic db theoretical rules.
A double in power, eg, 300 watts to 600 watts will give a 3db gain.
A 10 db gain is considered as twice as loud.

So for a system to sound twice as loud as 300 watts, youll need 2400. Hence giving you your 10 db increase.

But of course in theory all things like type of box/cabin size, and a million other things you cant deterime in theory will affect the db.

okai, my bad, didnt mean to come off all weird n **** lol

I never understand this whole spl comp stuff... i mean, when you think of it, spl comps have absoulety nothing to do with car audio.
Its just, make the loudest ****in noise you can in something that can be remotely called a car.
You see these things that cant even been driven on the road, and you cant even play normal music in it.

If 130db will kill you, then i spose bout 120 is round the loudest anyone would ever want/need in a REAL car.

I just find it fascinating how i can love car audio so much and be so passionate about it, but when it comes to SPL stuff, i have no interest what so ever.

ok u other spl freak heads. what r u running and what numbers have u pulled?

siccness, the qld ones were measure using a termlab, with the sensor on the passenger windscreen.

what did u get 140 with? what r u runnign?

I think people have read it wrong. 178db on audiocontrol doesnt even count these days as termilab is the new and more accurate meter. A guy pulled 169.6db out of a single DD 9915 on audiocontrol which is only 160.XX on termilab. So yeah 175+db on audiocontrol is a crap score and definately not a world record.

Pioneer is poo.

I have head a Single Tornado Sub hit 130db SPL on an RTA Meter before it smoked a Coil it was very smelly but fun to watch...

I have hit 141.2db same place, using my Two Magnat XTC1200 with APPROX 250W RMS each into them with a Sine Tone of 45hz and the Microphone was placed at dashboard height..

I would love to see what I would get now,Since I am using about 50 W RMS into each sub, a rough estimate would be Possible low 125db or so... My Enclosure is Very effiecient, little power for Maximum Boom, yet still have a High Q sound to it....

I really do need to get a Bigger 4 channel amp so I can give them a touch more Power... I may look into a Boss 1200W amp as my friend is running his Two Eclipse 12's of his and it doesn't even get warm when the Subs are Dropping bottom, without bottoming out..

how do you people burb, do you just point your remote through the window and hit pause?

magnat
09-07-2005, 12:06 PM
Que it up to the Right tone with the Volume down low, then hit Pause, Raise the Volume you know your system can Handle then hit the Pause Button It will BURP then hit pause then turn down the volume......Of Course Only re hit the Pause once you are outside the car...

there is advise on the Car Audio Australia website on how to make an SPL Burp... try searching there...

Actually i would love for someone to post their injuries caused by this.
Gonna start a new thread in CAA SPL forum now.

Got some early results in today but first here's some short details you must read carefully...

SUB
Kicker solo-baric L5 15"DVC 750rms.

AMP
Kicker Class D 735wrms at 2ohm.

BOX
<170L fibreglass, ported at 35Hz.

POWER & WIRING
Century battery 12.5V, Audiopipe 8AWG. No capacitor.

DEADENING
K-mart and Jaycar brand on rear boot panel only.

SPL
139.9dB at 30Hz to 40Hz warble.

I wasn’t expecting much from this set up so far, especially since the car seemed to flex more than the sub lol , but it’s alright nonetheless for a daily user  ... there's still a bit more work to go yet. Check out the website in my signature if you would like to see some of the setup.
