I am currently about to start putting a new head unit into a TH Advance (I have read the articles on how to remove the console or I would not even be attempting it!!!)

The problem I think I am going to have is that the clip-on surround for the head unit (you know - clips around the front of the unit to hide the gap) is too wide and tall to fit properly into the space available.

What woul dbe the normal way of approaching this????

Do I just trim a bit off the Head unit surround on the top and two sides until it will slide into the space available in the console, or do I have a surround sitting on top of the concole?

Hope this makes sense?

Have the Surround bit Sitting ontop of the Console , it will stop your head unit from falling into the hole..

by this do you mean the little piece of rectangular plastic that clips on surroundign the face? - if it is, just grab a rough piece of sandpaper, and a block, and sand it off. Once its done, slowly work to a finer grit sandpaper..

or the metal sleeve that holds the entire unit? - if it is, it should be a standard DIN size, and you won't have any problems with fitting it in the gap

Its not meant to fit into the space, it fits around the headunit.

They are a standard DIN size. So you shouldn't have any problems.

I mean the rectangular bit of plastic that clips around the head unit.....

The unit itself will slide and screw in fine, it is just the plastic surround that will not fit correctly and will look a bit wierd if I don't trim it to fit....

The plastic part clips into the headunit face itself, and is meant to go on the outside of the din slot.

Try first and see if you have any problems

yeh, like i said u could try and sand it down with a low grit sandpaper, and work up to a finer one.

you'd porbably want to paint it after you're finished though, lol

what part is stopping it? the top and bottom?

I'm a perfectionist and very pedantic...it will look a little weird without the surround, but you'll probably learn to live with it later.

Thanks all!!!!

Got the sterio in and working... Some judicious trimming of the surround and it fitted OK - not perfect, but only I will ever realise
