Heya's. When reversing out of my driveway, on the drivers side I can hear a loud scraping noise, when I turn my steering wheel, sometimes soft, and sometimes no noise. If I hear it and constantly turn the steering wheel left to right, the noise is louder, then subsides. Normal driving, and around corners there is no noise, only when driving slow around corners?? I have had both C.V joints, and shocks replaced 4mths ago, and new brakes on front with disks machiene about 1mth ago, could it be any of those?? Have looked everywhere under car, and had mitsubishi look at it, and brakes, but nothing...! The only thing I can think of if its the power steering playing up, coz it makes a "groaning" noise sometimes, or could be wheel bearings.. Any advice appreciated.

do you have much fluid in the power steering? mine seems to make a noise like that when the fluid is low.

yeah man fluid is full, i never really have to top it up, its pretty good. It was serviced by my mitsubishi dealership last week, they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but noted it may need new wheel bearings due to play. I have taken it back a few times since, coz when I turn my steering wheel backing outa the drive way, that when it does a scraping noise on the drivers side, (much like metal to metal brake pads) but its not that, they've just been done. mitsubishi can't find anything.. I'm either guessing its the power steering pump, or something mechanicle around that wheel.. gonna take it back again monday.

dude double check your p.s fluid and/or take it to a steering and suspension specialist
You will find it is the little rubber cap/s on your steering bump stops (the bumps that stop you turning the wheels any further) are worn through, so when you reverse out of your drive at full lock, and the suspension travels up and down, it will make a horrible scraping noise. Absolutely harmless, put some grease on the bumps or put new caps on them.
Goodonya Sonja.

Cheers for all your replies....
Mitsubishi had a better look at it yesterday, they took apart the drivers side brake assembly, and found that something must have been caught in the disk or something coz it was deeply scored.. All fixed up now, no more noise..
