I've recently aquired a 1990 TP Executive Magna Wagon and took it to the mechanic to have roadworthy completed. I've been told that the following needs to be done to get it up to scratch.
* Front left lower control arm bushes need replacing
* Sway bar rubbers need replacing
* New muffler
* Front right indicator globe replaced
* Rear right stop light globe replaced
* Two new tyres (rear)
* Small amount of oil leaking from Power Steering system
I'm not very mechanically inclined, and he's told me that it will cost over $2000 to complete the repairs as listed and that it's not worth it. Also he said that because it's been converted to gas and the conversion is more than 10 years old it has to be taken out.
Can you guys please give me your opinion on the above and if it sounds right. I figure people here are the best equipped to give an un-biased opinion.
Thanks in advance.

$2000 doesnt sound right, it should be more like $600....(depends what tires you get to!)
And as far as the gas goes, i dont think it has to be taken out, i think it has to have an inspection done on it, thats all.
My advice? Go to a differant mechanic and get him to check to see if it will pass roadworthy (Some mechanics will do it for free)
Good Luck. :cool:

nah im b'sing, i do agree 2000 is hella to much unless he intends to modify the car at the same time, like rims and performance muffler maybe with some neon or LEDs globes :nuts:

a ruff guess on on prices would be
* Front left lower control arm bushes need replacing just being rubbers i would say the main cost would be labout yet i would think it could get down for less than $150 including the bottom on aswell yet not very sure on this as ive never done it.
* Sway bar rubbers need replacing
* New muffler would definatly get change from $200 as ppl are getting cannons installed for that
* Front right indicator globe replaced a few minutes and a globe for less than a buck
* Rear right stop light globe replaced same as above
* Two new tyres (rear) $200 total for decent tires
* Small amount of oil leaking from Power Steering system depends on were its leaking from as if its the pump you could be able to pick up a 2nd hand one in good condition for less than $50 and install it ureself (its not hard) if its the lines leaking then same deal pretty much
yet thats just taking a guess as i do all my car work myself yet yeah about 600 + lpg stuff

go buy the parts urself and install them urself. 1, it saves alot of cash and 2... youll learn something. get to know ur car better
I needed that, and rear brakes, and it cost me $700. Including labour.

yeah thats way expensive, take the car to a different mechanic! Hes trying to take you for a ride big time!!!
All those repairs wouldnt cost 2000 on a brand new magna, let alone a first gen where parts are cheap!

From cat converter back new pipe oversized to 2.25 inch and a lukey turbo muffler $220 fitted hes having a lend of you tell him to stick it, globes will cost you about $2 each and the hardest ones are the break lights but all you need is a 10mm spanner or socket
Wagon?
Philip's screwdriver, and 4 minutes.

Thanks guys. I'm taking it to a different mechanic recommended by my father-in-law tomorrow. At least now I have a ball park idea of the cost I should be hearing.
