Has anyone here had one before ? how good are they and when hooking up, would you treat it the same as 2 speakers ?

The only difference between DVC subs is wiring configuration.

You dont want to treat them as two speakers as they arent. They are two coils pushing the same cone. Therefore they need to have the same signal going to each coil. This is why it is best to use a monoblock for them and wire in parrallel or series

You can use a two channel amp but you need to ensure the same signal reaches the coils. eg use rca splitters and make sure the gains are matched.

DONT run in stereo, only in mono.

There is no audible benefit between DVC and SVC, some say SVC can afford to have thicker coils therefore handle more power, but in theory they only have to see half the power.

Match the sub to ur amp. Or vice versa.

while we're on the topic, i was looking at eventually replacing my 2 subs with something a bit better, eg JL, Eclipse or Focal...

the problem is my amp will only run at 2 or 4 ohm, and most decent subs now are dual 4ohm VC so wouldn't it make it difficult to run at 2 ohm?

4 ohm DVC can be wired in series for 8 ohm or in parallel for 2 ohm
2 ohm DVC can be wired in series for 4 ohm or in parallel for 1 ohm

yeah, i get that part, but what about when u have 2 subs? would i be able to run 2x2ohm DVC in series, then parallel or something?

Ah whoops, missed that bit...
each 4+4ohm dvc sub can be wired for either a 8 or 2 ohm load, so with two subs you can have either a 4 or 1 ohm total load.

ahh ok..

The reason i am asking is because my brother bought a directed audio 212d DVC 12" sub. We built the box to spec (following the specs sheet) and hooked it up on my 4 channel amp.

We bridged it so we have 2 mono outputs and connected them to the sub (so each coil has the exact same signal as s_tim_ulate said :) )

We turned it all on, and holly **** this thing kicks ass!! pisses over my 2 10" JBL's but i think we have to do some fine tuning because im not very happy with some of the notes.

Ahh good ol directed, they're really big in America, don't seem to be that popular in Aust for some reason, good to see i'm not the only one with one.

yeah thats what i thought.... damn... looks like i'll have to be looking for a pair of decent 4ohm SVC
