magnat has reccomended a nice hu for me in another thread, but before i completely decide wether or not to buy it, id just like to cover my last option, double din hu`s, i think they look nice, but how are they for quality? are there any ones worth reccomending? how much can i expect to pay? are they a waste of space?

many questions yes :P but at least its now open for discussion :d

Bleh. from what I've researched - which isn't alot :P
I think double DIN HU's are a waste of time unless they include an LCD screen to watch DVD's on! Or you use alot of Tapes :doubt:
However, if it looks nice, and it's at the price and quality you're looking for, i don't see any reason not to get one.

I'm not sure if the price really justifies it though, it looks great, but it'd have to be at $700 before I'd think about getting it.

that looks pretty similar to my eclipse unit, only real differences i can see is that has built in TV tuner and can play DVD-mp3 discs, where mine can use memory sticks, and has a very large EQ/DSP and time alignment functions... and mine was about $1800!

Most Double Din head units have poor internal Amps as they have stuffed a Casstette Deck and a CD player into the one one unit taking up space internally..Sure some Double din head units look sweet, I would only recoommend getting double din if thats what is in your dash at the moment..

Better off with a Really good quality single din..

but who runs things off the head unit apart from just rear fill?

Me, The JVC deck I got needs no External Amp apart from the Sub.. Sure if I wanted to add another Amp on it would be overkill for daily listening....

I got a Sony WX4500X Double Din in my car which was already there when I bought it, I'm not too keen on it's fussiness with minor scratches... I'm gonna get rid of it soon and buy myself an DVD + Screen to refill the empty space, don't get me wrong though... Apart from the fussiness with minor scratches I really like this unit, just wouldn't pay $999 for it.
