I'm thinking of getting a vrx kit, since I have to respray the front bar and replace the rear bar. And I just wanna know a few things before I set out and buy one.

Firstly - Where can they be bought?

2 - Is the rear bar just an extension off the standard one, or a complete unit?

3 - As above but the front bar.

4 - Does anyone have a measurement of the gap for the exhaust on the rear bar?

5 - This one is mainly directed as EGO, how easy was it to modify the rear bar and do you have a close up pic of it.

I think thats it. Thanks.

They can be bought from Mitsu, or www.jetspeed.com.au i believe. Pretty sure the rear bar is a complete new thing, but i could be wrong. And to make the front bar fit, you need to have a TH/TJ lip already on the car as it clips on over it or something.

Be sure to get the kit from mitsu as they will at least sell you a proper plastic injected moulded kit, rather than the flimsy fibreglass crap you get from ssv.

yeh i agree... the quality can be very different, and i'm not sure if those other places to the wheel arch flares or not?

BTW, will look awesome on your car!

the whole kit, front lip, side skirts, rear lip, wing and wheel arche's should be about $1800 painted & fitted

Front and rear sit over the bumpers, fortunately you have the TH front. Carmate has arch flares. Not sure what Carmate's kit is made from and didn't think Jetspeed had a kit, their site doesn't list one and their site is one of the worst company website's I've ever seen  .

Actually, any chance someone know's what part numbers make up the Mitsu Kit and fitting screws etc? I know it's not listed in their system as a VR-X model because the car doesn't actually exist as it's own entity but it does have the usual part numbers.

yeah 'd be getting one of mitsubishi too.. you pay for quality i guess, if you buy it from SSV or someone like that you run the risk of getting an ill-fitting kit or one that is "wavey" instead of straight.. if you have any idea of what im talking about lol

I would definatly reccomend getting a genuine VRX Kit from Mitsu as being plastic they are much more durable. If you scrape the front bar when parking or on a steap hill you are less likely to damage the whole bar.

They really are tough mine has been through hell really, especially my side skirts they always seem to like to hug speed bumps (my car does get low with 4 people in it). If my side skirts were fibreglass they would have just shattered.

Also you will get the arch flares from Mitsu with the kit, which in my opinion look fantastic, definately much more agressive! The front and rear bars just fit over the stock bars (as mentioned you need a TH - TJ front bar)

I love the VRX kit, i think its great! Im having my front bar taken off shortly for a respray and will be meshing up the openings which should make it look nicer :D

i would definatly reccomend getting the kit from mitsi... you may even get some sort of warranty that way (proly not but you never know)

its ALWAYS better to get injection moulding over fibreglass, but some pro's & cons would be:

FIBREGLASS:
Cheap to buy, Cheap to repair
Cost of repair will quickly outweigh buy price, as its fragile crap...

INJECTION MOULDED GENUINE
Buy price is dearer, Repairs may be harder
More durable, so less likely to need repairs as often
Looks much better, fibreglass would be harder to match the paint on
Genuine, so would have less problems (if any) with insuring

Not really mate, so long as you go to an experienced plastic welder its pretty easy to fix.

mine wasnt... its made of this weird yellow plastic that i was told was unweldable...

maybe the vrx kit is different material to the ralliart kit, but im only going on what a crash repairer told me...

then again, when insurance is paying for it... did either of us really give a sh!t?

what he prolly really meant was "its too hard... i cbf..."

:bowrofl:

but yeah... always go origional... you get what you pay for...

and hey, be thankful you want a vrx kit...

i was having this discussion a few weekends ago in town, and discovered that the TRUE origional veilside kit costs near $16,000 where the fibreglass version is only about $3000 for the whole lot fitted & painted...

theres also one for the supra (name of kit escapes me) but thats worth $42,000...

faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark that!!!!

So how much do you think you'd be looking at for a genuine mitsubishi VRX kit.

I've been saving for this kit for a while and 'was' looking at the carmate one for about $1400 unpainted including wheel arches.

Now that i've read this thread makes me think twice about getting it from there.

That Carmate kit doesn't include screws or anything for mounting it on the car. I reckon 2 - 3 grand from Mitsu.

part number for the front of the kit are:

-mr922789
-mr922790

these are JUST the add on bits.

The description is know as airdam, and the retail for each side is $332 depending on wether u can get trade the price can significantly come down.

also note that nuts, bolts, screws etc are sold seperatly but i would not purchase these from mitsu becasue the prices are outrageous eg. 1 screw $8 i kid u not
