Hi,
I've had a 2002 Magna VRX for about 6 months now. My fiance drives it to work which could be described as "city" driving, but on certain stretches it's not that busy. The car is averaging around 15.3-15.8 litres/100km (from reading the digital LCD screen).
Is it me, or is this high? We're going through probably a tank every week and a half for around 350km's.
If it is to high, what should I check for? I know pretty much zilch about the mechanics of cars... any recommendations for a credible mechanic in the South East/East Melbourne area?
thanks for any advice!

jeeeeez thats a lot of fuel being you sure you dont own a commodore trying to look like a magna lol
But really that figure is a bit high my parents TJ series 2 in only city driving gets about 11.5 to try and fix the problem tell your fiance to lift off the loud pedal lol
or the car just needs a service maybe new fuel filter or if the car has lots of k's on it maybe get injectors cleaned

Owhh, that's plenty of juce gone! Should be around 12 or something.
Could be anything from dirty/blocked airfilter, stuffed spark plugs/leads, faulty injectors, faulty oxygen sensor etc.
Start with air filter and plugs.

We both definitely don't drive "heavy" (at least I think she doesn't! :)) All driving could be classified as "normal".

dude 350km's is shocking, even city driving you should be getting 600 or so, my sisters ks verada does, my ts manual which is mildly modified gets about 500 or more all city...oh if you don't know ts and ks=1995

My car went in for SRS servicing last week. Since they disconnected the battery I've gone rom 12.6L/100 to 15.7L/100. Grrrr.

A few weeks after I bought the car, I needed to have a new battery put in... Do you think this could be causing anything??
the car also had it's 45000km service just before I moved to Melbourne from Sydney. Should I have another service, or ask them to look at something in particular?

pfffft....try driving a ford territory
74.4L /100kms hehehe lol for some reason that only happens when i drive lol
i get shocking fuel economy too. Around 16 litres per 100kms.
I've had my injectors cleaned, my o2 sensor checked (it was OK), spark plugs and leads replaced, air filter checked, fuel filter replaced - etc. Doesnt make a difference.
Does anyone know if a faulty o2 sensor can still appear to be OK when it is tested with a multimeter? It's been suggested that I replace it anyway to see if that is the cause of the problem.

My wagon averages 12.5L/100km commuteing between Queanbeyan and Canberra and point to point work around Queanbeyan on normal ULP. Currently I've got a tank of E10 in so I would be interested to see what happens there, the 2 Commodores didn't like the stuff and guzzled it. PULP didn't appear to improve it much around town. I reckon this is not bad considering it's a Verada wagon with a baby seat and a pram that weighs as much as a small car always in it!
