OK folks... here's an odd question for ya'll. I just bought some LED tail light globes for my clear lenses today. They're excellent and I love them. They are actually RED and not and orangy pink! Only problem now is that my cruise control doesn't seem to stay on when I set it. I'll be cruising along and it will just turn itself off. I remember reading a thread on here a while ago that the LEDs cause issues with the fuses and other electrics (or something!).

Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem may be? is it just a coincidence that my cruise control is playing silly buggers straight after I put the LED globes in?

Thanks guys!

LED light globes draw less current than incandescent globes; I think in 3rd gens they might have blown-globe sensing circuitry, so it thinks the brake light globe(s) are blown. Since the cruise control system relies on the brake light circuitry to be operating correctly, it is cancelling itself unintentionally. Only way to fix this is to tie some resistors in parallel with the circuit to drain more current out (and produce excess unwanted heat), unless you want to somehow tinker with the sensing circuit.

Hmm... that all makes sense. Sounds like a job for my auto sparky! Thanks teK--

OK, here's how I solved it.

when I got my car it came with a factory spoiler with the built in brake light but it was never connected. The only brake lights that I had working were the two in the tail lights and the one on the parcel shelf.

Yesterday I climbed in to the boot and did a bit of DIY electrics and tapped the spolier brake light in to the parcel shelf brake light in the hope that more current would be drawn and everything would be happy. Anyway, seems to have solved the problem. The cruise control now stays on and doesn't cancel itself like it used to :D Now when I hit the skids the vehicles behind me get a lot of red! :D

I also asked my auto electrician what he thought. He said the easiest would be to put two more globe holders (with globes) on to the wiring run and just have them coming out in the boot or something.
