Still trying to decide what HU to get - Alpine 9835 or Pioneer DEH-P1Y or Pioneer DEH-P8650MP (or 9650).
The Alpine and Pioneer DEH-P1Y have 60W Mosfet/internal amp whereas the 8650/9650 has 50W Mosfet.
I am not planning on installing an amp or a sub and will be using stock speakers for now so does the 60W give clearer sound at high volumes with stock speakers - or does it just bust them?
Also the 8650 has a 13 band graphic digital equalizer while the Pioneer has a 3 band parametric equalizer. What is the difference between a parametric and a digital equalizer?
Thanks for answering my numerous noobish audio posts!

Well, i dont know about the equalizer, but my pioneer headunit has a 45w mossy, and my speakers aren't good enough for it. It sounds much much much better than the stock HU i had from mitsi, and bass and sound quality wise its alot better. But i think with stock speakers, it wouldn't make any difference wether you went for the 50W or 60W mossy. Speakers aren't good enough to cope with that much anyway. :)
I can only turn it up half way, before speakers start to distort.

The Difference Between 50W MOSFET and 60 W Mosfet is Negligable..
If you are looking to run all the speakers off amplifiers then you should look at their RCA Output and not the internal Amp rating..
The Higher the RCA voltage the Better the signal will be hence the more clearer..
Running an After market Headunit on stock speakers will result in the stock ones burning out.. If you go aftermarket headunit go aftermarket speakers as soon as you possibly can ..

forget peak power figures. what RMS values do each of the head units have? probably only a difference of around 4 or 5wRMS you will find.

If you want real power and sound, nothing beats an amp.
Stock speakers usually very poor in the older model of magnas, I remember I blew my stock ones on a TR putting the sound up only half way on a MSFET 50 lol

See if you can get them run side by side at a shop and honestly you'll pick the 9835, It blew me away and I walked away with it, by far and away the best thing I did for my stereo. Absolutely poons anything else I have used :) pretty fiddly to muck around with settings, but you get that when you can control everything :P

Really? I found the opposite actually. :(
The Alpine DAC sounded almost the worst of the common bunch we tested recenty for a magazine. I would have ranked them something like this:
Clarion
Pioneer
Kenwood (equal)
Alpine(equal)
Sony
This clearly shows why it is always best to audition yourself and chose which one you like. Everyone has a different opinion.

Honestly, buy the 50 one. save the money instead and get some decent 6x9 and 6inch splits later to improve sound. That's what im going to be doing. Amps and sub are later. Not important to me at the moment.
Trust me, anything is better than a stock HU :) You will notice that right away when you first switch on the new one.
