i know its not a real biggy, but for anyone wanting something to do next... PUT A STRUT BRACE ON!!!
its cheap, easy (ffs i can do it lol) and the car handles SOOOO much better now...
driving in the wet last night, was able to boot it in a right hand turn, lost FW Traction, and pull it round easily.. couldnt do that easily before...
HEAPS more traction... cant wait for some twisties in the hills tonight
anthony from phillcom will price em up for ya, remember theres been a price rise now :D
awesome... definatly reccomend :D

yeah no spam... ive got a patch on this morning....
but definatly man, what meh said too... looks good in the engine bay (all shiney like :D)
traction is better, handling is better, looks better...
when i put it on i had to take the resivour(sic) off to make it sit properly, didnt have too, but it was hitting the brace...
excellent... gonna belt through the hills tonight... will let you all know how that goes :D

i've heard some people say these do nothing.. when holden added strut braces to their performance models they where severly rideculed for it and apparently a holden suspension engineer even admited they where a peice of marketing, and did nothing for the car.. but i hear so many other people saying they make a huge differene! Perhaps its just one of those thing you have to just try for yourself...

holdens handle like poo regardless... thats prolly why
naw the steering and traction/ handling is all improved greatly IMHO

y wouldnt stiffer suspension feel any different ?? i know mine did, made the feel of the car alot better

i guess maybe it comes down to how strong the front end of the car already was..? if the strut brace doesnt match the stiffness that is already between the front strut towers i would assume no difference is there... maybe the magna shell is a touch weak at the front meaning strut braces make a bigger difference then on other cars???

u cant compare a rear wheel drive to a front wheel drive car, all their tourque is through te rear wheels as ours is through the front wheels, complete different setup. In my opinion it wouldnt benefit a rear wheel drive car as much as before the strut towers flex too much the rear of the car will flick out anyways, rather than our front wheel drive where you dont get the rear flicking out till u use your hand brake.
someone else prob has more idea but thats a start

yeh im not too sure im just going off basic engeneering knowledge,
but i would think for rear wheel drive there would be only so much you could mod the front for handling and steering mods, as you still will only be able to go around a corner so fast before the rear wheels flick out, but saying that a strut bracw should reduce flex allowing for the driver to accelerate and by turning the wheel the oposite way bring the car straight again smoother and easier, just a though that

Theres a big difference in the stiffness of the chassis between a Holden/Ford and Mitsubishi, add FWD and RWD to the mix and it differs even more.
The Magna has alot of flex in its chassis, as can be heard when you roll backwards on an angle down a gutter slowly and hear the rear parcel shelf groan. To try and stiffen the car up they added in some additional braces (otherwise known as your backseat that cant fold down)
For a Magna, the strutbrace is propably one of the better handling performance improvers out there, add a rear sway bar, Low's springs and sports dampers and youre laughing.
I heard the strut braces will get rid of that sudden pull to the side when taking off. Can anyone vouch for this

that sudden pull is torque steer and yes a strut brace SHOULD fix this problem or atleast minimise it.

it has fixed that for me at any rate... not sure about others

Deffinately helps with this! I'm hanging out for an anti-lift kit now...

Most, if not all, cars with a MacPherson strut setup will benefit from a strut brace.
Falcons don't benefit much, if at all, because of their strut setup (cant remember what it's called)

Wishbone at the front and Control blade at the rear on the falcons?
As for rear drive cars, maybe a strut brace in the boot would be more a benefit, like they do in the 350z. I'm not sure how they could fit it to a sedan though.

would there be ne benifit in doing this to a car with stock suspension or is it sorta lyk and after suspensions been upgraded thing?

Even a stock magna will benefit from it

A front strut bar and lower arm bar combo will benefit any cars in terms of stability and handling, it also makes the car more rigid, like Bain said, it also reduces chassis flex by strengthening the upper end of the body...
Coupled with a rear sway bar for FWDs, the steering response will also be noticable...
Front Strut bar is a mod I'd recommend any day for any car :D

took the beast through the twisties on the weekend... must say...
STRUT BRACES FREAKIN ROCK!!!!!
even in the wet... was able to take those corneers even quicker/ harder than before
(a few people here know how quick that is ;))

umm.. no. If you go into a corner too fast any type of car, FWD, AWD or RWD, their all going to understeer on turn in, thats simple physics. Just cos a RWD car has power at the back, doesnt mean it will magically whip out unless you provoke it with your right foot.. A RWD car will only loose its arse if you put too much power down on exit, by which time you are obviously no longer turning in and the stiffness of the front of the car, while still important, is no longer critical.
Whether you have a FWD car or a RWD car, unless you dont know how to drive, your not on the throttle on turn-in, therefore no power is being applied to the driving wheels and therefore it doesnt matter which end is driving the car (except for weight distribution). Thats why i made the comparison with the holdens as there is no difference between the two on turn-in, only on exit.
I never knew that the magna's have a weaker chassis then other sedans.. but it makes sense if you think about it cos as Bain pointed out, they creak a bit when going slowly over gutters and they fixed the rear seat for additional bracing. The TL upgrade of the car i know included increased chassis stiffness at the front of the car so maybe i wont see as bigger gain with a strut brace as those who have a TJ or older car

wtf does this have to do with the thread?
back on topic: i've always said to everyone that has asked, "IMO, besides springs and shocks, the strut brace should be no. 1 on the list"
