Well getting ready for tomorrows caa comp, I've been in the car the last few nights. Ripping things apart.
Recent additions... Boot deadened with astromat and sound off
Parcel shelf deadened, rear seat deadened.
Rear 6x9's removed for now... Initially removed to help deaden, then i cbf putting them back in. Adds to the stealth :)
Ground point in boot now looking pretty good, with two 2 gauge grounds, still going through the baby retraint block.
RCA cables finally replaced with 3 runs of Stinger Helix which have been sitting in the car for months. And a new route found to eliminate engine whine/noise. Rca cables run straight through the centre of the boot away from the amps. No longer runs behind the dash. Instead I opted to go straight through the centre console to avoid the cpu and all the 'noisy' electronics.
Blu tacked my door handles... But still not happy with it, they buzz around a bit... In fact I'm gonna go deaden them now... :)
Other DD1012 installed, some adjustments to crossover slopes of my mids and subs.
Blends seemlessly with all the locateable sound coming from the fronts, and the subs adding that extra authority in.
Deadening the rear of the car has eliminated all rattles at moderate listening levels which means the subs are no longer locatable. reducing the low pass on the subs helped out here.
As for me, i'm sick and I have two blocked ears, so it has made for some difficult tuning.
For the future, I still have to find a proper mounting spot for my other Soundstream amp. Considering redoing the amp rack to mount them all on a false floor which would help with my wiring runs. But we will have to wait n see.
Also need to do some more work upgrading grounds in the engine bay.
Estimated time till I am happy with it, January 2009.
Peace
Tim
*Sick of removing the goddam rear seats

s_tim_ulate, i'm not sure if im going to make it for the CAASQ competition tomorrow, my car has been playing up quite a bit lately, and considering I have to head on the freeway with the timing/tacho/gear thingy it'll be interesting to see if my car can even hit above 80 without blowing up half way to Keilor. I'll see if I have the balls to head over there in the morning, hope to make it though.

I would have left the 6x9's in even if they were just as passive Bass radiators. That way your sub would stay in tune without unnecessary ports ruining their quality..

The hole in the parcel shelf from the 6x9 is about 1 mm thick, I doubt you would be able to get any standing waves in there. It's not a port...
The EVIL SQ Bug has struck again....Bummer..
SQ will kill what is left of the good old fashioned world of Car audio..
Remove your 6x9's Tim, they are an unwanted Weight in your ride, Or do you hold on to them for sentimental reasons ??
:P Make up ur mind...
Anyway today I improved on a few areas... Ended up improving by 2.5 points... But no trophy today unfortunately... :(
Not to worry.
Few more things to toy around with... :D

Well, You are not using the 6x9's so save weight..
I was more in thinking of you having a smooth linear sound as their would be unwanted Port noise leaking into the cabin through the holes where the 6x9's were..

Nah missed out on trophies this time. Came 3rd... aka last :( in amatuer street
A veteran rocked up taking 2nd with a full alpine setup and the older alpine reference splits. And the winner was in a corolla with 3 way Morels who i went up against last time.
All good though, next comps in a month, hopefully fix up some issues I've been having before then...
Already got some Dynaudio MD100 Tweets on their way :)
Which will mean my Morel tweets can go up into the delta panel for ambients.

It sucks how someone with a bit more money can come along and kill everybody; however, the equipment isn't necessarily the only way to win competitions. Heh, I think you already know that though, Tim.
perhaps some of these people shouldn't be in ametuer street :P

the cadence tweets, would they go good hooked up to my kicker splits instead of the kicker tweets, only reason i ask is cause my kicker ones keep getting kicked and i keep having to solder them and hence i was looking at replacing them with better ones and ill mount them better. Do they come with mounting brackets and can u post a pic
cheers

Used but in good nick - Hertz hsk 6.5" mids ONLY - $160....hmm, im somewhat interested...
what about the boston crossovers? 2 way? what frequencies? slope? specs? a pair? lol

Soz if i take time to answer questions... I'll do my best...
ok Cadence tweets are ok, I wouldnt call them audiophile but they are what they are, i currently use them as ambient tweets. I believe they have an internal hp filter which caused some problems when I used them with the boston crossover and the hertz tweets.
Felt like there was too much rolloff around 3khz, but I never metered these so cant be sure. Whether anyone else will notice this I dunno :p
There are 2 Boston crossovers - dont have specs, model number is RC61x (google it?) It is for the 61lf woofer and Neo 2r tweeter.
Still not sure if i want to sell anything, (I have actually never sold any audio gear, just given it to friends and kept it for little hobbies)
The Hertz 6.5" woofers are part of the HSK split system, so will not replace a complete coaxial speaker... But with the Boston crossover and Cadence tweets you theoretically have a split system which will do a decent job for fronts for $250
Alternatively the replacement tweets for the hsk split system cost $100 new. (can be ordered from autobarn afaik)
You could possibly just wire these up full range and wire the cadence tweeter across them with no crossver. Could work...
Remember these are NOT matched so Im not offering any guarantees on quality, am more than happy to wire these up to demonstrate though for ppl in Vic.
Hertz mids have a few slight scuffs on the back sticker and the normal marks around the screws, they just fit under onto the stock places without baffles. 1 mid still has wires soldered on, the other has bare terminals.
Not in a rush to sell, not sure if i want to sell... Hell I didnt even put this up in the fs section :p
Peace

Tim do you have a list of what your running in your car? im just curious.
Also hopefully ill get my sound deadening in soon and fix up all those little things that need fixing and then the TR carputer will be entered into the next SQ comp :D cant wait.
Also theres no cd rom drive in the comp so they wouldnt have anywhere to put there SQ cd :P

I'm interested in the HSK 165's mids just for the rear doors, then later I would consider getting a set of tweeters for the rear, and what not.
