Alright, now, I've got this noise and i'm a bit baffled by it, i don't think its terminal but i want to know what the damned thing is anyway cause it gives me the ****s. I recorded it on my phone and its in AMR format (i think?) anyway if anyone wants a listen just pm me or something, now it sounds like a tapping like... a pen on a table? anyway it doesn't change speed and so far i think it only happens in second (but i only decided to really take notice coming home from the shops which is a 2 min trip) it happens between 2 thou and 4 thou rpm BUT it goes away sometimes. So i can't just rev it and stick my head under the bonnet.

any ideas would be great.

i had a sound like that, ended up being a stuff up with the heater controls, i just moved it up and down a little, fixed itself. Only happened at certain revs also.

Does it sound like its coming from the dash?

nah more like from under the pedal but in the engine bay, its a bugger and the sound has gone now, i hate it cause its only very infrequent, its probably a stick stuck under my car tapping on the road or something haha

If your heater control is not fully Off or fully On, the spring on the heater water tap
can be too weak to keep it closed at certain revs - which pumps the water past.

Move the heater lever either way and it should stop the noise.

My old TN regularly made that noise with the lever 6 clicks from far left.
5 or 7 clicks = no noise.

If u need to convert the file, speak to EGO.. He learnt how to convert amr to mp3 the other week..

Duh, but as i said it only happens SOMETIMES and between those rev's roughly, if my second gear was crackin a granny it'd happen every time i was in it. it sounds too close to be in the box anyway. im thinking the heater thing is right cause the heater is on when its doing it. pinging comes from the engine, not from under the steering wheel. why would my car ping at 2 thou revs and not at 4 thou...
