I recently changed my rocker gasket, the half moon gasket and also the 2 bolt gaskets and I'm still getting leaks. The oil sits near the oil filler cap and I have replaced the cap itself too !!!! where the hell is the oil coming from, its got me baffled, any suggestions?

yeah same problem here mines a v6 i think its mainly the filler cap but there seems to be a rediculous amount of oil all over the plug under the cap
PS whered you get a new filler cap from

My old cap was missing the rubber insert, it only had a cork one. I went down to the wreckers and bought it. I'm very reluctant to think that its all coming from the cap cause there's a fair bit of oil leaking, might have to check for hairline frctures in the the rocker cover :doubt:

The PCV (Positive Crank Ventilation) valve is probably blocked/worn, causing excess crankcase pressure and escaping oil from the oil filler cap + around rocker cover seals.

does the 4cyl have the pcv?? i think they might. They are a hose attached to the top of your rocker cover, not sure where on the 4 cyls

I paid $8 for the rocker gasket, $3 for the half moon gasket and about $1 each for the bolt gasket, and thats from Mitsubishi.
GTRICE so the PCV is the breather pipe I take it, never heard of them called that before lol
I'll check it when I get home tonight then. Thanks

yep ive had all of those things on my 4cylinder. cost about $20 for gasket, cresent moon, bolt seals, oil cap seal and most importantly some of that silastic gasket glue. Once all of that was sealed i found that it was leaking because the rocker cover had a hariline crack in it. $40 for second hand replacement which i sanded back and enamaled just for fun then re silasticed it and has been as good as gold since, not to mention being enamaled made it feal like i was actually doing something. ended up looking like this.

Thanks for that, will have to see if I can find the crack.

Yes the PCV is the fitting in the rocker cover that has the hose on it.
The rocker gasket should have some sealant on the area it goes around over the half moon seal and the other end where it goes over the area the cam goes though for the water pump. Also on the half moon itself. DO NOT USE SILICONE use the proper grey or ultablu
Best to clean the area first to see where it is coming from,
The oil filler cap can leak heaps, get a genuine shand one, go to mitsu and get a new rubber seal for about 3 bucks, this should fix the problem of the cap.
Those who have seen my motor know it does not leak a single drop of oil.

as it turns out, it was definately the oil cap that was causing my oil leaks. Even with the second oil cap the rubber was crap, so off to Mits to get another rubber seal.
Thanks for all your help :)
