Just got my starter motor replaced but they have put a auto one into my manual from a tr they insist it wont really make a difference but my car is making a different sound on start up and something sounds like its rattterling while im driving?

don't think there is a difference between auto & manual starter motors, is there a fault in the one that was fitted?

they both look the same except the auto ones are slightly longer they still have the same amount of teeth ect

If u lift up the front, put it on gear and turn the wheel (with hand...!) can u hear any such noise from the starter motor direction? Can u see the contact? U need assistant to do this for u - lift and secure the car properly!

the auto one is different, your problem however sounds more like the gears inside the starter, these increase the crank torque for the unit, the carrier splits and can cause this.
