I've just bought my Magna TR 93 Sedan recently and the radio and front speakers are all stock and they're crap. There are no rear speakers or on the front door. I know nothing much about car audio and I went to strathfield to have a look. I quite cash strapped and am probably looking at a CD player w/ mp3 + 2 rear speakers + installation for under $200. You guys reckon that would be possible?

I was thinking of getting some decent speakers and having a cheap cd/mp3 Player/ tuner. If the max output for the speakers is say 180Watts and I couple those speakers with a Jensen - 4 X 50 Watt CD Tuner with MP3, will it be alright? There's this Boss Audio 450Watt 6X9 Inch 4 Way Speakers at strathfield for $49 and it seems really cheap for its power but I have absolutely no idea how they would sound. I'm definitely not looking for fantastic sound quality from just 200 bucks.

Pls advise. Thanks

Hi mate id just save a bit more and get something decent jensen is pretty avg same with boss equipment
i think with 400dollars you could get a good sound happening with a mp3 deck check out the sound section mate
also the TR's have places in the rear shelf for 6*9's to fit nicely

For $200 you are pushing it, a semi-decent hu will cost you $150, leaving you with $50 to play with. I'd up your budget to $250, get a boss or jenson mpe hu for $130-150, if you can get jenson 4" for the dash for $50 do it, mine sound awesome, and then for rear fill or to put 6" in the doors (depends if you want your rear seat passengers to be able to hear it well or not get a pair of 6" speakers, boss or jenson. These arn't the best sounding speakers around, but definately at the higher end of the "cheap" scale.
Some people just dont wanna spend heaps on car audio, and boss (jenson i find sounds better, but usually abit more expensive) fits nicely into that category.

Also having alot of power means nothing if you are just running off the stock HU. You wont hear any difference between 300w or 450w speakers etc. unless you buy 50w speakers compared to 25w (lol if anywhere would even sell 'em). If you have a HU at 4x50w, your speakers are only gonna run at 50w each, so if you have no plans of powering them up with amps later on, go with the lower wattage stuff as it's far cheaper.
You are better off buying a decent hu then buying a **** one with good speakers, as it'll sound **** anyway, plus the fact that cheap hu's usually have lower quality lasers that dont last nearly as long.

hm...yeah.. So what u mean is that a 50Watts X 4 HU will power the speakers at max 50 Watts output even if i'm just running 2 speakers with 180Watts? The jensen HU i saw was actually the 50watts X 4 one which costs around $179. What does HU stand for anyway?

Head Unit.

your speakers can be a million watts, but the amp in the HU is only giving out Max. 50w, meaning your speakers can only get that amount Max.
