i just bought some speaker raisers from autobarn and used these when i had my TP, also had to add some mdf rings to make them come out far enough, but yeh get these babies, screw them into the door and then screw the speakers into the raisers, its not rocket science.
good luck

umm...what!?! u cut the door? as in the steel bracing behind teh door trims? I sure hope you didn't!....
does it have map pockets?
Your best bet is to build a custom fibreglass speaker pod and secure it to your door. I'm not completely sure on what the 1st gen doors are like, but i'm sure u can find somewhere to screw the pods into rather than just the flimsy, 16 year old door trim.
Remember, you probably don't want to have the pod completely sealed off, as the speaker would most likely sounds like pepee with coffee and rasin puree. Cut a hole in the door trim. That way it also allows for the magnet to take up some space, and not make the speaker stick out too much.
Spacers are usually dodgey, since they're just thin plastic....
If you really don't want to fibreglass, I guess u could get desperate and make, like, 10mdf rings, stack 'em up, make them on an angle or whatever. Let ur imagination run wild!
Or get a pro to do it

oh yeah.....i'm sure any hobo with 2/1399 of a brain could make them.
grab some MDF, screws, glue, fleece, resin&catalyst, matting, sandpaper, filler, carpet and you're off!

To late for that and it was way quicker to to it this way and a better finnish.. yer i should of made pods but i wanted it in That day..

like hell i dont trust "PRO's" as they are year 10 drop outs with no brains
the only thing i would maby get them to do is my boot install but really it aint that hard as u said and F****wit could make a speaker pod and that is what a "PRO" is
If you ever get a "PRO" to do it i would do random check-ins to find out wtf they r doing to my car..
Car Audio is the only real thing i know about cars so y would i get a Drop Kick to do it...

A drop kick would not have cut structural Metal to get speakers in..
If you have cut the Metal in your doors then your car is now considered a safety risk and may be deemed unroadworthy..
If you are involved in an accident and are injured the insurance companies will forfeit any claims you may have to make..
ohh, well......k, there are quite a few dodgey installers out there.
I read ur profile and it says ur in qld. i assume in qld. northfield moorooka and gold coast car sound are very good, reputable installers. they will most certainly do a proper job!

Yeah i was shocked when i took of my trim only to find that THERE IS NO FREAKIN HOLE BEHIND IT!!!
I dont like pods because i am always kicking them so thats why im replacing the stock front dash speakers.
BTW, me and my bro made some pods our selves for his commie. They arent the best looking, but its better than paying $100 + for pods.

I cant seem to find the pic of it in the car and the batteries are dead in my digi cam but it looks pretty good. I was going to fix the white parts on the vinal but its no big deal :)
