View Full Version : Leaks

I got myself some ramps yesterday, and decided to take a look underneath, and I noticed that the transmission, in between the transmission pan and the engine sump, was slick with transmission fluid, and the gasket in between the engine and the transmission appears to be leaking engine oil. The transmission had a full rebuild about 2 years ago, and things seem to have gone downhill since then, with savage banging downshifts, surging upshifts, and seemingly no power from the engine, no matter where the pedal is...
I get the funny feeling that the transmission is completely rooted...
Anyone got any suggestions?

Buy a new one. Problem fixed,
How often do you get it serviced??? do you take it to the same people or different work shops, or it wasnt done right the first time my 2002 tj surges but mitsu said give a good service ( Same oil in the box 97000 ) and it will run like new again HOPEFULLY

Firstly there is no gasket between the trans and motor
If it is definatly trans fluid then it is the torque converter seal
It may also be the engine rear main seal, this is much more common.
Clean it well, drive it until it shows signs of leakage, then see if you can tell the colour, red is trans, yellow - black is engine

There's red fluid on the bottom of the transmission, and black oil in between the engine and the transmission.
