Hi Guys
I have replaced a fuse and to do this, i did as the book says and disconected battery.
I have, in my time with this club, seen several things people say you should do if you reset your ECU including long winded processes with your gearbox (because of INVECSII) which seem like you need a maths degree to do, idleing for 5 mins, idleing for 10 mins, go on a resonable drive after reset etc etc. Can anyone tell me if any of this stuff is necissary? What is the best practice to follow. I suppose an idle time would make sense to allow sensors to adjust and whatever. Just after some other ppls ideas on the matter and what they have found to be the most effective and efficient way to do this.
Thanks
Havent reset the ecu myself but I have read that it is best to start it and let it idle for 10-15 mins to set itself up.
Yeah probably best to leave it idle for 15 mins.
Is this necessary for manual cars as well?

Yes but it won't reset in a few minutes - you need the battery disconnected for 3 hours at least, so unless you're the world's slowest fuse puller its not likely to have reset as such.

at least three hours?? are you sure? because i no that when ppl change their batteries, or, disconnect battery to put in a head unit the thing seems to not run right for awhile
changing your battery only takes 5mins, not 3 hours so it would seem that it resets straight away

Well we ****ed around with interior light and blew fuses and stuff and it reset the ECU in a few mins on Mysti`s TH..

well my understanding is that there are some capacitors in the system and they need to be completely discharged etc to get a proper reset (This from the local Marshall battery place in Five Dock). If a quick disconnect = 'not running right' then there could be something to this - certainly when I've done mine (twice before) I've left the positive off the battery overnight and then started it next day, let it idle till warm, then drive as normal. Result = sweet as behaviour.

5 minutes is more than enough. I've done it before. And don't worry about idling for x minutes. Just reconnect it and go.

To discharge all the capacitors after disconnecting the battery to speed the process up the trick is to press the brake pedal a few times

Just quickly disconnecting the battery seems to reset some things but not everything.. just disconnecting and reconnecting the battery 5 minutes later is enough to make it go through setting 3.5L/3L and Wagon vs Sedan, but to clear an ECU fault code for example, requires you to leave it disconnected a fair bit longer.

I was told when i got my auto serviced last that the ECU can be reset from having the batery disconnected for a little while and then i was told to start the car in neutral then from there shift between reverse and neutral 6 times and then the same for drive 6 six times and then take it for a drive to let the computer remap everything. I reset it before by accident while installing a sub a while ago and the same when i took it out.
I reckon mitus should've had it set so that you have to wait an hour or something before the ECU resets.

dissconnect 10 or so minutes, turn on ignition for a minute as well to help drain the system.
Start, if needed reset your options and idle for 20 minutes, this is what the mitsu manual says anyway
